Project 2010 Change Ribbon Button Images

I'm a new user of MS Project Professional 2010.

In all previous versions from 98 onwards I have been able to create toolbars with customised button images driving macros that I could send to colleagues. A means of standardising output.

It seems to be virtually impossible in 2010 unless you are a programmer or software devloper of some sort.

Can anyone tell me in simple terms how to customise a ribbon button image or perhaps point me in the direction of a guide or procedure that would help?

Please note I do not want to do this with the Quick Access Toolbar, just the Ribbon.

    Thanks very much!

I'm assuming you've added the custom buttons to the ribbon. Right click and choose, Rename -- there you can change the image.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes, I can add buttons to the ribbon, assign macros to them, and change the image by selecting from the options provided in 'rename'.

Perhaps I should have said modify, or customise a button image.

The button images provided are limited and I prefer to have images that provide a hint as to the buttons purpose or function.

In previous versions we were able to edit and even create our own button images very easily.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I think the ability to easily edit button images was removed with the ribbon changes.

I did find some hints on editing Excel images so they may apply. In case the link doesn't come through search for "Ron de Bruin images on custom ribbon controls". The steps are for Excel but they should apply to Project as well.

The link worked ok but i'd been there before.

Excel utilises XML which can be inserted into and used by a single Excel file. What I want to do, basically, is create a brand new ribbon that I can save to my Global.mpt for use on all files.

    Regards and thanks again.

The best I can come up with is the following thread on the Microsoft forums:

The answer seems to be a VSTO add-in.

I've looked at those links and tend to agree that's the way to go.

Seems I have to go back to school again.

Thanks very much you've been a great help.
