Formula to calculate date of delivery

Hi, I am new to MS project 2007, I have a schedule of dates for work to commence on. we need to order items 4 weeks before the start date for that task.

If possible is it able to calculate when we need to order 4 weeks before the start date for that task and for it to be on a specific day on that week i.e thursday.

    Thankyou

Try this as a start: Create a task called say "Order items" and give it a durration of zero to make it a milestone. In its predecessor column enter the ID of your work task, make it start-start and give it a lead of 20 days (it should look then something like 35SS-20d). Project will then calculate the date that you should order the items but it may not be a Thursday (sorry but cant help with that).

Shoppingboy got you 99% there with a start to start and a lead on the task.

Then create a calendar with the only working day set to all Thursdays. If you give the "Order Items" task a duration of anything greater than zero (perhaps 10 minutes to place the call) and assign the custom calendar to the task, you should be all set. The lead places the task a minimum of the lead days before -- the custom calendar will force it to schedule only on Thursday.

    I hope this helps.
