Remove unnecessary months/Quarters

Hello,

My Gantt chart view scrolls to the right showing 1Q2012, 2Q2012, 2Q2012 etc. My project doesn't last that long and these blank columns/rows show up on my print view. The key dates that my Mgmt. is concerned with is 2011 only. These are not only unnecessary dates but they are taking up space on my page that can otherwise be used to show the 2011 activities in larger detail!

Can you describe how to resolve this problem?

One more thing: I inputted 2011 as the range to Print, but I still get the printout looking like the attached. See attached.

What prints is usually controlled by the setting in the print dialog. What do your settings say?
What version of Project? What service packs or CU?

Hi Julie,

I am using MS Project 2007. I actually inputted 15-Mar. to 15-Jul. to try and zero in on just those times of maximum activity but I am still getting a "too expansive" printout, see attached.

It looks like you have tasks that span multiple quarters and then a large gap and then other tasks that span multiple quarters.

Try filtering your list of tasks (using the built-in Date Range filter) then try print preview does that help?

Okay I used that - but the printout still shows 2012, 2013. The issue is that I don't have ANY activity in 2012 etc. but the printout keeps printing these columns which eats up valuable real estate on the paper. I would rather that area show the 2011 activities in larger detail. At this point, everything is microscopic on the page. That's my key problem.

What is your scaling set to in the Page setup dialog? Fix X page by Y page? Can you increase the magnification in the Page Setup dialog?

I have Scaling set to 70% of normal size right now. If I try and change it to 100% and do Print Preview I get an error message saying:

1. "Reduce the width of the columns" (would love to know how to do that!)
2. "Change the page orientation to landscape" (it's already Landscape)
3. "Reduce # of columns to be printed on each page" (yes, that's what I want!)

On the View tab in Page Setup, how many columns do you have selected? Can you narrow the width of any of the columns in the table (left side)? Can you drag the vertical split bar back to the left?

That did it! I had (the default was, apparently) 10 columns in the View tab. I reduced it to 4 and the view is now what I need. I had previously reduced the column widths on the left to zero and dragged the vertical split bar all the way to the left. The view is MUCH better now!

You cannot remove months from the Gantt chart view. The chart will always show dates from 1984 to 2049. Please describe in more details what you are trying to do. Please include information about what release of Project as well.

What are the settings in the Print dialog? I am guessing you wish to remove the months to the right side?

Set the print range in the Print dialog box.
