Need help to access Current Date filter on Microsoft Project

I need some help to work with Project 2007. I am not able to setup a filter on the same that can allow me to view a set of task that has finished at interval of 30 days. In that what are the possible ways available through which I can simply access current date and configure filters on it. It would allow me to get more details on the older task and calculate a time difference.

There is on Current Date field provided. So that is the reason you cannot get any ste of filter for the same. But you can do one thing. You can try to add custom date that might work and set the formula as per your choice. You can start working with a filter with the help of date field and you can then add the value in the same. Try the same and then provide information what error you got or you had able to get right result.

Julie's proposal will work just fine. I might propose a slightly different approach:

    1) Take a spare Duration field and add the following formula: ProjDateDiff([Current Date],[Finish],[Task Calendar GUID]) - this will calculate the difference between the Current Date and the Finish date for the task. Swap out Baseline Finish for Finish if required.

    2) Create a new Group (Project > Group By), that groups by the custom Duration field. Set the intervals to 30.

That should do it. You may want to filter out completed tasks using a filter (Project > Filter for).

[QUOTE=JulieS;4906035]The [Current Date] field is not available in the value choice
options for custom filters. However, you could add a custom date
field (Date10 for example) and set the formula for that field as
    [Current date].

Then create the filters using the date field as the value.

I tried creating a formula for current date as described above but there was a syntax error. can you please provide the specific formula. thanks.

    The formula is:

    [Current Date]

no equal sign and field name enclosed in square brackets.

    What did you enter?

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

Have you looked at the built in Date Range filter? It allow you to specify and start and finish date dynamically.

To get the current date + 5 working days - change your Date5 formula to:

    DateAdd("d",5,[Start])

This is great! I will try both suggestions since I currently run the "Should start/finish by" filter, put in the dates for 30, then 60, then 90 days from now. Then I have to go through and manually weed out the 30 dayers from the 60-day list and the 30 and 60 dayers from the 90-day list with another filter. Luckily my schedules are fairly short and statused frequently enough that there aren't many each time.
    This will definitely be easier!

Have you thought about using grouping on the date fields? You can set intervals to see your tasks grouped by day or by week

That is so easy! You should write a book! You always have the best ideas.

Thanks very much for your enthusiastic feedback. I actually have written a book about MS Project as well as MS Project and Clarity. Sadly, they were for clients so they are not available at your favorite bookstore.

    Bummer.
I'm actually looking for a book to improve my skills. I have no idea what all Project can do even though I've been using it for three years now.

It's funny how other people post questions that I have been pondering, too.

I was looking in the Kindle store yesterday, but they have so few. They are so expensive, too, so I don't want to buy one and find out it's garbage.
