Calculate backwards

Hi
I have a set end date. From this end date I want to calculate
backwards to see when I need what.
I have all durations and work estimated so there must be a way that I
can calculate backwards.
But I don't find it
Or is it simply saying:
Finish as late as possible for each task?

Re: Calculate backwards

Everyone always has a "set end date".
This does not mean that you should not use the standard Critical Path
Method.
One of the rules or characteristics of CPM is that scheduling is always done
forwards from a start date and Tasks are always scheduled As Soon As
Possible.
It is important to use the CPM because you need to know how soon Tasks can
start, so that you can start them ASAP.

That said, see Project, Project Information, where you can choose to
schedule backwards from a finish date, then all Tasks will be scheduled to
start As Late As Possible.

But be warned, even though it is included in the software, no one ever does
it and I don't recommend it.

CPM is pretty much the only way to go. There is no realistic, viable
alternative.
Just ignore the arbitrary "set end date" and work on the Task durations and
the predecessors network.
You will arrive at a project plan which shows you what can be done, and how,
and by when.
Hopefully, the project finish date will be earlier than your "set end date".
If not, then find the Critical Path, which is the chain of Tasks which is
determining how long the project will take.
Find some way to shorten the duration of critical Tasks or get some Critical
Tasks off the Critical Path.

Project is much richer than that.
No need to set the calculate from finish option.
Wanna know the latest dates? Simply show them (Late Start, Late Finish) -
Insert Columns does the trick
And moreover Project gently offers you the difference betwen late and early-
Total Slack
No need to calculate from finish indeed - CPM always calculates BOTH dates.

No need to insert the columns and mess up the Entry Table.
Just switch to the Schedule Table for all the appropraite columns.

Re: Calculate backwards

Well it all depends on your need whether u just want to calculate data for a period of time or complete, if its complete data no need to add a column for end date. Microsoft Project is use as a Project Time Tracking Software also so by which you can analyze the records
