| Summary complete % does not show
I have a "Fixed Work" project that has fixed number of hours for each task. I have been updating the Physical % Complete. I have the following questions: 1) When i update the physical % complete (or % complete in the gantt chart), it does not update the % complete for the task??? 2) Even if i enter the % complete for the tasks, it does not update the summary % complete for the task rollup or for the project? What should i do differently to see the overall % complete as well as individual summary tasks complete? Thanks JAck |

Physical % Complete is only used as an optional method of calculating Earned Value. It has no effect otherwise. When you "updating the Physical % Complete" are you saying, for example, that 3000 bricks have been laid out of 10000? For Summaries, MSP calculates % Complete = sum of task actual durations/sum of task total durations For simplicity, we can just call "total duration" Duration. Once MSP knows the Summary % Complete, and since it knows the Summary Duration, it can calculate the Summary Actual Duration = Summary % Complete x Summary Duration. This is very easy to test with some Tasks under one Summary. Start with say 4 Tasks all 10 Days, no Predecessor links, then try different combinations of different Durations and throw in some Predecessor links. When you say, "Even if i enter the % complete for the tasks, it does not update the summary % complete", I find this surprising because it works for me. Perhaps it is happening but you can't see it. Perhaps you have calculation set for manual instead of auto in Tools, Options, Calculation. When you are doing the updates, do you have visible the Tracking Gantt View and the Tracking Table? Do you set a Status Date, and show it as a vertical red line on the Tracking Gantt Chart. See the post from earlier today about some good reasons for not using % Complete (it sucks) and the much better option of Actual Start, Actual Duration, Remaining Duration, Actual Finish etc : Updating tasks - difficulties because the percentage changes after rescheduling... Thanks Trevor. This was very helpful and resolved my issue (automatic calculation).
