Import data from excel to MPP and set to outline levels

I want to know a way to import a number of tasks from an excel spread sheet to an existing project file. This file has been set with a WBS structure and outline level set to the WBS, so it is possible to import the new data to automaticall sort to an outline level set by the WBS ID that will be included in an excel file? Can anyone let me know about same? Thanks.

Actually, what project handles at such an import is the Outline Level field. After that importing that should be able to create the WBS.

Thanks for the reply, I have now added a column 'outline level' into the existing excel spread sheet and then set outline levels as required to import to project. But for some reason after the import to MPP, some of the values set in the excel spread sheet as an outline level have changed but not all? Any information on such would be helpful.

Lets say for example, if a Task with OLL 2 is followed by a task with OLL 4, then MS Project wont be able to handle that. OLLs only jump one at the time and the 4 will be changed into a 3. That might in turn influence the next ones.

Thanks for the response, I am going to try out some tests and see what happens exactly. I guess that the import and carrying out the outlining should be done manually.
