As for me..i like Honda(HMSI) simply bcos they have churned out the best n the smoothest 150cc bike...i 'm sayin so bcos i have tried it first hand (since i've got one ) Tht too at an affordable price...they seem to have caught the indian psyche...give'em more for less wid the right economy (fuel wise...)

But still my dream bike remains the good ol' Royal enfield 500cc... rit now i can only dream of ownin one... Dis company has a cult following not only in india but in foreign lands as well...its not a piece of machinery..its a jewel which needs to be maintained, polished and cared...no other machine comes close in ride quality to a royal enfield...

Look at it...its the big brother all the way..but what intrigues me is tht after all these yrs of techno advancements the bullet is still the same old bully tht it used to be in the 1930s.....and it still manages to own all other bikes on the road... the oil-dripping engine, soiled pants,on-off electrics and poor mileage not widstandin,....seems it takes a lot to love a bullet and once u r deeply in love wid it,a lot lot more to even try to hate it...!!
Its a shame tht after all these yrs, the other bikes from reputed companies spending zillions in R&D still cant match the ride quality and the feel of a true blue bike like an enfield bullet..

I feel tht a company tht is truly worthy of criticism is Yamaha India...after a gr8 start in the 80s wid the brilliant RX100 and the exotic but shortlived RD350, their advancement thru the last 20 yrs has just been a puny 25CC.... churning out s**ky little 125cc runabouts in the name of motorcycles reflects their indifference to the needs of indian consumers whom they feel r happy wid whatever is on offer... Yamaha India need to kno tht India is more than just a land of doodhwallahs who need a mover for their cans....no matter even if tht is done at 20km/hr..Tht we cant be fooled by advertisements and big claims about bringin in more models wid flashy grafix but the same little s*cky engine What makes them believe tht they can capture a sizeable market wid their 125cc motorcycles (more akin to lawn mowers ) and an all-show-no-go cruiser when others have been offering bigger capacity bikes for the last 5 yrs or so..??

^^ I agree though what i meant to say was tht it was CBZ tht actually started it all and was the first of the biggies to stir the senses of the indian biking enthusiasts..
It paved the way for other contenders...though its no more an object of desire as there r far better offerings available from other manufacturers which r better off in almost all the parameters and come at a much more affordable price...

I like the Bajaj for their Pulsar series (Well, u could count in da classic sputtering scooters). Their scooters also innovated the way in which u kick start da vehicles.
(i.e., laying it one its side, 1 min. elapses n u kick it again n it starts making a sputtering noise)

One more company worthy of criticism is TVS...r they still in the 90s.... will they ever come out of the commuter hysteria...Dont they think its aout time tht they come up wid a tru 150cc or higher end product for us,customers...??Mating tht 150cc engine to a 4 speed gear box proves tht all they think of the indian market r commuters...do they think tht indians r still not used to the 5th gear or tht there is no use of a 5th gear on our roads??

hehe...my dream bike will always be the RD350
Whoops...tht bike owned all other bikes of its era..n needless to say..it still does...just shows the level of advancement we hav had in the last three decades...haha..the RD owns all the cbzs, pulsars, unicorns, karizmas of yore...!!
but nowadays a good condition yam RD350 is hard to find...still if u find one..u r one of the lucky few who do....and be prepared to shell out 45 bucks for every 12-15 kms...!! A small price to pay for a ride of ur dreams, rit?

I guess Honda's discs aint tht good...i've got a unicorn and the disc simply lacks the bite of tht of a pulsar unit...strange but the discs of both the bikes is made by the same kalyani brakes (KBX) Pune......

Re: Your favourite Indian Motorcycle Company

My vote goes to BAJAJ, for the simplest of reasons:

Bajaj goes all out to innovate and improve its products. The last three products from Bajaj are all entirely home-grown and look at their quality: Pulsar (arguably one of the most iconic bikes in the country), the Discover (the best urban-commuter package, without doubt) and the Wave (a great new-age scooter for those who prefer the simple life). Without Kawasaki.

Unlike Hero Honda, Bajaj took its best-selling Pulsar and changed the entire engine to the DTS-i and the dynamics and torque curves. It further went ahead and increased the wheelbase, added gas shockers and wider tyres to the 150, put in smaller 17" wheels which made them re-work their gear ratios. Which compnay takes the gamble with its best-selling flagship? To re-invent a failed Cruiser bike in India and be successful? And without Free Gold Coins and Rs 1001/- off on Diwali.

As for the Yamaha lovers, the RX was great but sorry, not anymore.

Enfields,well... have driven the 530 Lightning for some time and even the Electra (both friends'). But one week after buying the Electra, the decompression broke in winter. How do you kick-start the damn thing then. Would be great, but this 2005, not 1955. Give me the Avenger anyday.

Product Performance is another thing (Bajaj products have the best performance + mileage anyways) and Product Quality and Innovation is another. Missed the point, remember the Suzuki Shogun? Great Product Performance, Dismal Quality.

My vote goes to Bajaj. Mostly because I own the Discover DTS-i, and it rocks. Pretty well balanced I'd say. Also I've driven the Pulsar a lot, and I must say its the best power bike in India.

Re: Your favourite Indian Motorcycle Company

My vote goes to Bajaj for producing some AWESOME indigenous bikes(the CT 100, Pulsar, Discover, Wave DTSi).

Also, Kinetic to bring in high end bikes like Comet and Acquila. Even though there is no mass market for these bikes, it is nice to see that they brought in these bikes in limited numbers for those people who want performance and are ready to pay for it.

I myself own a Yezdi Roadking in very good condition and a Pulsar 180DTSi(the original DTSi. Not the ones with Alloy wheels). It is at stock and I have even beaten a Karizma!!!

I fail to understand how you people like Royal Enfield. They make crappy bikes which are so goddamn outdated. I mean, I understand the retro bikes thingy though I dont like it. But abroad retro bikes have modern engines, trasnmissions, brakes, suspensions, etc.... It only LOOKS retro.

But the Royal Enfield looks and feels like it is a relic of the middle ages.

The Thunderbird was the closest it came to a modern retro bike.

OKAY.... So the Bajaj Votes are growing... Do I understand that the Image Value Voters are being replaced by the Quality value Voters? The last three posts (including the one by me) mean the same.... Make a great Product... A good value package and don't be afraid of continuous R & D. Then it dosn't matter whether you are Vintage British like Enfield or SuperBike Winning Japanese like Yamaha. I shall only look at what get for my money!!
