    can anyone tell me how to solve this error? becoz I did a search and there
    were no results.. thanks

    This is all I came up with on this error - I would suggest manually downloading the
    update in question and try installing it. It appears the one you tried to install may
    be corrupt.

    0x80242006 = SUS_E_UH_INVALIDMETADATA


    The caller passed an update with invalid metadata to the handler


    You can download them from the Catalog and save to be installed later.

    This appears to have done the trick for me, Thanks!

    One gotcha: When the EULA pops up during the download, don't just click
    accept. It failed on me several times until I used page down to go thru the
    message and THEN clicked accept.

    Tried installing latest KB905474.
    Error - Error Code: 0x80242006.

    Verified that I have a Genuine / legal / aboveboard copy of Windows.

    What gives ???

    Hi,

    This error mean WU_E_UH_INVALIDMETADATA this is most likly due to the fact
    that the metadata that was download does not mached the expected metadate
    listed in the Softwaredistribustion DB on your machine. Please try the
    following to resolve the issue.

    Use the following steps one at a time to resolve. If the first one does
    not work proceed to the next step.
    1. Attempt to go to the Windows Update site again and try re-installing.

    2. Start \ Run
    Type cmd then click OK
    In the command prompt type the following command : Net stop wuauserv
    (Press Enter)

    In windows navigate to C:\Windows and Rename Softwaredistribution. Also
    rename the same folder in C:\Windows\System32

    In command Prompt type the following :
    Net start wuauserv (Press Enter to Start Windows update services)
    Try Windows Update

    I have the same situation for over 3 months, I have been trying to install
    the security update for windows XP; but it keps coming up with the same error
    code each time I try to install it : 0x80242006
    I hope MS solves the problem soon!!

    example, an installer running with UI that was cancelled externally to SUS)

    Is this XP or Vista ?
    Please post the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log
    Start > Run . type in

    %windir%\windowsupdate.log

    Click OK or press Enter and the WU.log will open
    Scroll to the bottom, copy&paste the requested lines into your reply.
