IE6 user agent looks like this:
where,Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)
Mozilla: Application Name
4.0: Application Version
compatible: Compatibility Flag
MSIE 7.0: Version Token
Windows NT 6.0: Platform Token
You can change the user agent using the registry tweak but registry tweak might be dangerous in my opinion. So do it carefully.
To change User Agent String of Internet Explorer 6, open Windows Registry Editor to locate this Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform. Each value name listed in this key will be sent to the remote web server as an additional entry in the user agent string.. Close the Registry Editor and restart your Internet Explorer for changes to take effect.
It is important to understand the basic concept of what the User Agent strings are as this will give you an understanding of how it pertains to the Internet Explorer User Agent strings. A user agent is the client application used with a particular network protocol; the phrase is most commonly used in reference to those which access the World Wide Web. Other systems, such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), use the term user agent to refer to both end points of a phone call, server and client. When Internet users visit a web site, a text string is usually sent in the HTTP header field User-Agent to identify the application and operating system names and versions to the server.
