    second hard drive

    Home built
haven't built pc since xp first came out, but do go back to 3.1
    AMD phenom 940 4 core
    4 gig dual channel g-skill 566
nvidia pcie 9600 gso 768 mb
    lg sata dvd-r-rw etc
    Seagate 500 gb sata 2
    Vista 64 bit Home Premium

Needed 2nd sperate drive to download torrents and other no-nos. Expect to maybe pick up unwanted files, but have had to format main drive twice in one month. Have usual problems with drivers, progs., etc. prepared to re-format new drive, as I intend to burn movies, etc.
Bought 80 gig Sata 2 Hitachi dive, inserted in sata 2, and dvd in 3. though I did everything (I thought} right, but when booting could only boot to new drive. Even with new drive removed, could only boot to it. Now when windows first start, get message ( Secondary Master ATAPI Incompatible, Press F1 to continue.) was going to return, and spend couple dollars more to get larger, Seagate. Help Please!

you can get usb portable hard drive that can be best option to store such data like movies, songs safely without any operating system trouble.western digital is good option as i have.and for your booting problem i will suggest you to check setting for jumper. the hard disk which you want to boot keep it on master.

Install the second hard drive as the Master on the secondary channel. Evidently your BIOS doesn't like your setup.

As you are facing many problems like drivers and hard disk issue, it is better to buy an External hard disk. if you are planning to buy an External hard drive then you can go for Transcend StoreJet 25F, or Lenovo ThinkPad USB Secure Hard Drive.

An external drive was one option I am considering. Speed on the secondary is not major concern, as I am planning to use for torrents and such. What do u think about just getting enclosure and plug into external sata (which is on the board, or usb?) Could use opinion as I have never put in (called NAS isn't it?) I guess there would be no cross-contamination as I belive they are used mostly for backup. Still don't understand what happened, and do u, or anyone know about "press F1 to continue" that I have to hit to boot, much less ( Secondary Master ATAPI Incompatible). Last machine I built had IDE cables and jumpers, so it was master-slave relationship. I know, still sounds a little kinky. One more thing, I don't know about 32bit Vista, but The 64 is like an Alpha test system that should never have been released, esp. after all this time.
