Video Error- "Video decoder is either corrupt or not installed"

I have a Gateway and recently reformatted my hard drive and after
"successfully" setting up my television connection on Media Center, it will
not display television. My cable is plugged in so I'm not sure what to do.

Please help!
Thanks.

Did you reinstall MCE manually or us a Gateway recovery disc of some sort?

If manually setup, did you reinstall a DVD decoder? If you used some type of
recovery disc, it should have done this as part of the reinstall, but it's
possible that you have to manually install also. (Ignore if you are using
Vista w/ Media Center, the decoder is included in the OS)

Also, check your tuner and video card driver (make sure they are MCE
drivers, not just standard Windows), occasionally problem there can result
in this error message.
If it’s a Gateway I’m guessing you have MCE 2005, did you install the DVD
decoder?

I recently saw this problem. I did everything I could think of. Updated the
drivers, installed a stock dvd viewing program (powerDVD 5), reinstalled my
OS 3x. I could watch the DVDs through powerDVD and through media player, just
not media center. Nothing would view in the "TV Live" or "Play DVD" portions.

I downloaded the verifying program to check the compatibility of the decoder
with media center. It showed no conflict. I went to powerDVD's site
(cyberlink) and downloaded a trial of the new version (version 8). I
installed it and media center now works perfectly fine. I uninstalled the
trial version, retained the decoder and thus continue to use MCE.

I had the same video decoder error. I downloaded a trial version of powerdvd
and then my media center worked fine. I uninstalled the trial version and
then it didn't work. How do I "retain" my decoder like you did?

Simple, you need to buy a decoder, either the PowerDVD or nVidia or whatever
(the nVidia one is $20). The trials will only work for a limited period of
time.

Re: Video Error- "Video decoder is either corrupt or not installed"or missing. Here is your answer!! for your M1070N Media

bzzzzzzzzz!! Not sure why this information is incorrect....I had to register just to post the correct answer....This link is for the M1070N Windows XP Home Edition...I strongly suggest you visit this link and update or check your system. I had the same issues with my Media, CORRUPT OR MISSING... I downloaded some of these updates and reloaded the Intervideo DVD, its says its an update, but its both an update and a install..Do the install since you could have lost this software. That's it!!! And again, do download all of these files via this link since our system is a tad old..After you completed your updates, restart your computer although it does not state to do so.

P.S DO NOT BUY ANYTHING!!!!

Valuable information information I'm sure, but since you choose to clip the
rest of the thread, no one has any idea for which problem you are supplying
information or what answer you are correcting.

Re: Video Error- "Video decoder is either corrupt or not installed"

This is another post from the vBulletin USENET gateway gang, besides
seeming to have nothing to do with this newsgroup.

I don't know what vBulletin USENET gateway is, but it is an apparently
endless source of disconnected posts (for instance, "Re:" often refers to a
seemingly nonexistent post), people who don't see replies to their posts,
unquoted original posts, and so on. A real mess, IMO.

Re: Video Error- "Video decoder is either corrupt or not installed"

This post was a reply for the missing or corrupt decoder message. It should work on the G.W as well, but is the fix for the H.P Media Home Edition model M1070N...Hope that clears it up some. The title/thread above should explain what this post was for anyway yes? Unless I'm not seeing something...Sorry for the mess...
