A few days ago, I accidentally downloaded a dodgy Active X off a website. It downloaded tons of spyware, malware - the usual tricks. I used my Spybot S&D to get rid of what I thought was all of the spyware. Afterwards, I used Adaware (by Lavasoft) to remove anything else, but halfway through, I got this blue screen of death: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine. If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x000000F7 (0x00720072, 0x00009334, 0xFFFF6CCB, 0x00000000) Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. I'm not sure if the Technical information is correct, but I know its similar - I'l update as soon as it next happens. Anyway, I tried deleting all of the Active X's that I had downloaded, but I still got this problem. And I tried Spybot / AdAware in Safe MOde to give the same outcome. And, in frustration, I tried a System Restore, but I still get the blue screen of death, so it never actually finishes. I'm completely baffled now, so please, any kind of assistance would be appreciated. Im not very good with any technical computing either, so please can you give me any details in easy to folllow instructions. I've changed the technical information now, its all correct please help |

Here's one idea: go to a group dedicated to Windows security issues, instead of Media Center issues. There's a better chance someone there will know how to deal with your problem. |

| RE: Stack based buffer; Physical Memory Dump; Blue Screen of Death Hel
I got the same thing. The screen you see is a screen saver screen of some type that is generated with some type of code. I deleted the programs antivirus xp 2008 which I think is part of the malware, killed things in the registry that referenced it and recreated my user profile; however I don't think I'm totally clean. There is still that bmp before windows boots that is also a screen shot that has the warning "Your machine has been infected with spyware..blah blah blah...buy a antivirus program..blab blah" screen is yellow and blue. I think this may be associated with the TROJ_ROOTKIT.CY malware...but I would love for someone to tell us the best way to clean this up as the virus programs I use don't see a thing...oh yeah, the program seems to reset options so microsoft secruty center ignores some of the code...saw that in a post out there. |

If you have this issue any further try going to superantispyware.com they have a free version of their program that removes all of the attacks on your PC the after this is finished if the problem persists download the program Tuneup Utilities and run the 1 click maintenance this should solve your problem. |
