| Driver has overrun a stack based buffer error
I have the following blue screen error popping up on me. I try to run my virus check, but after about 7 minutes I'm getting the following error. If anyone knows how to fix, please help!! A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine. If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x000000F7 (0x00720072, 0x00009334, 0xFFFF6CCB, 0x00000000) Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. |

Try running your virus scanning software in Safe Mode. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- "icedevil" <icedevil@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7717D05E-053C-4E24-83BA-D3EEE46C5525@microsoft.com... >I have the following blue screen error popping up on me. The same thing happens in Safe Mode also. Are you sure you have the latest updates to your Anti-Virus software for the OS that you are running installed? | Re: Driver has overrun a stack based buffer error
I am running Symantec and it was updated early in the day on Thursday. This issue started happening late Thursday night. I think it is due to some malicious spyware on the computer. I am running spybot and just when it finishes and I go to do the clean function, the computer keeps crashing on me. There are posters on various newsgroups who classify Symantec AV as malware :-) I would bet (at least a dime!) that the problem is with Symantec's latest update. Perhaps after the next update Symantec will have fixed the problem. You might try posting in a more appropriate newsgroup or forum, since your problem has nothing to do with Media Center. Does Symantec have troubleshooting forums? Do they have tech support? On 6/13/2008, icedevil posted this: > I am running Symantec and it was updated early in the day on Thursday. Icedevil. Is there any possibility that you responded to a phishing email and installed a virus imitation of a real Symantec update? Can you use a restore point to get your system back to before the update? "Gene E.
