| Vista MC Error Code 13 Been having a few problems with my Media centre guide since I upgraded my TV card. Since upgrading and scanning for new channels it has been unable to download the guide data, before it would just sit on the same screen with the progress bar and not move. Earlier tonight I tried it and its giving me error code 13. I have searched the net and their doesn't seem to be any solutions for Vista MC only XP MCE. Hopefully somebody on here will know :) Thanks -- Paul |

I have the same problem. I just updated the drivers for my ATI TVWonder 650 card. I get to the point where MC lists my available guides. When it goes to download, it sits there with 3 dots showing for a few minutes before saying that it couldn't download the guide. In event viewer it says that MC encounter error code 13. I have Netscape Antivirus allowing ehsched to connect to the internet. It obviously is because it can pull up a list of guides. I have seen the articles about deleting the existing guide info and reregistering dlls but they don't work for me. Any suggestions? My MC has usddenly started receiving guides now. I'm not sure what the problem was. |

Strange, think I will just give up on MC. Was really good but theirs no community support, no support from MS or anything. Waste of time to be honest. Never seen such a poor response from a community as I have with Vista MC. My understanding of the Code 13 error is that it's essentially a firewall issue, and revolves around the way Microsoft is testing the Internet connection. There seem to be a variety of methods it can use for this. It either tries retrieving the site http://www.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt ie a small text file which you can view in a browser, or does something similar with other ip addresses such as 65.55.13.251 (another Microsoft owned web server). If the method it chooses fails then it throws up this Code 13 error, telling you there's a problem with the Internet connection, even when it's obvious there isn't. Although not an ideal long-term solution, you should be able to download the guide by temporarily disabling the Windows firewall (assuming that's the only firewall you've got running), and then reenabling it once done. These commands run from an elevated ("Run as administrator") command prompt on Vista should enable you to do that net stop MpsSvc (stops the firewall) net start MpsSvc (restarts the firewall) -- Jon |

Assuming "Netscape Antivirus" is Norton. Norton is likely causing your problem. Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall it. If it doesn't solve the problem, get rid of Norton anyway. Norton is known to cause many problems which don’t always appear immediately. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039 ------- *Report back, please* [When responding to posts, please include the post(s) you are replying to so that others may learn and benefit from the issue] [How to ask a question] http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 "ig88ds" <ig88ds@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C79202A1-6057-4BA2-830B-29FFE4016DEC@microsoft.com... >I have the same problem. Same issue, but I have always been running AVG. Even disabled I am not able to get the guide. Couple of other things I have noticed. With or without AVG turned on: - Can not remote dekstop to the PC (another issue i am trying to resolve) - Does not respond to pings on the lan, but can ping the gateway and other devices. - I have added a site white list on the router based on the logs for microsoft epg site. - Other applications on he PC (itunes for example) and in MCE (sport scores, internet trailers etc) are all being downloaded correctly. Any help would be appreciated. | Re: Vista MC Error Code 13
I dont think the problem is on your end. Just recently I've started experiencing error 13s too. It varies but I get a successful guide download from about 1 every 3 tries to 1 every 10 tries. I've made no changes, so I know its not anything on my end. I also have 2 MCE machines and both are doing it. Other people have told me that they too are experiencing the same problem. It seems that something funky is happening at the servers. -dickm On Tue, 15 Apr 2008 15:34:00 -0700, AH <AH@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >Anyone...Ayyone...Bueller??? > >"AH" wrote: > >> Same issue, but I have always been running AVG. >> Even disabled I am not able to get the guide. >> Couple of other things I have noticed. Ok so it is too varied and widespread to be a configuration issue. I have checked my Fortinet logs and I see the connection on ports 443 and port 80. I am at the point of doing a packet dump on the router but this is getting ridiculous. At what point would Microsoft help us out? C'mn folks...This is getting ridiculous. Its a Microsoft update realted problem...someone from MSN should atleast look at this and make a suggestion "AH" wrote: > Ok so it is too varied and widespread to be a configuration issue. > I have checked my Fortinet logs and I see the connection on ports 443 and > port 80.
