| Prcessor upgraded now Windows Media TV tuner does not work fine except for my TV tuner in Windows Media Center. I get a message that says "Digital Cable device registration application stopped working and was closed" The tuner card is a Hauppauge HVR 1600. I have tried uninstalling the tuner card and reinstalling it both physicaly and in Device Manger. I have tried removing and reinstalling my Nvidia 8500 GT video card too, but with no success. If I launch Windows Media Center everything works until I go to TV then I get a message that says "Windows Media Center has stopped working" close program. When I close the program then I get the message, "Digital Cable device registration application stopped working and was closed" I have looked for a way to re-install Windows Media Center but can't find one. I went on the web and found a thread that said to look for your DRM folder and remove the contents then reboot, but my DRM Folder does not have anything in it. I have tried reinstalling my motherboard BIOS, and my sound and motherboard chipset. This is very frustrating!!! If anyone out there has a fix or just something to try please let me know. I don't want to reinstall my Vista Ultimate but am getting close to doing so. PLEASE HELP !!!! THANKs |

| Re: Prcessor upgraded now Windows Media TV tuner does not work
Go thru the procedure again, a processor change from what I've observed always trashes DRM. I've been thru processor changes several times with MCE 2005 and it's always the same, the DRM must be repaired. Enable hidden folder and file viewing in Vista. 1.. In Windows Explorer, choose Organize > Folder And Search Options. 2.. Click the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box. 3.. In Advanced Settings, select Show Hidden Files And Folders. 4.. Deselect Hide Extensions For Known File Types. 5.. Select "show hidden files" and "enable to see system files". 6.. Click OK. 7. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM delete all files setup your tuners again |

In the past, AMD CPUs required special drivers to solve some TV & other problems. Perhaps your new CPU requires new drivers (download them from the motherboard maker or AMD - I've forgotten which). |

| Re: Prcessor upgraded now Windows Media TV tuner does not work
Your referring to the Dual Core Optimizer which is availed here http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...1_9706,00.html While the optimizer is required for all X2's I've encountered to play games and some video types properly, in this case it sounds more like DRM problems. It has been my experience with MCE 2005 that a CPU upgrade forced me to reactivate Windows in less then 30 days and repair DRM. |

| Re: Prcessor upgraded now Windows Media TV tuner does not work
I tried changing my settings in Windows Explorer to show hidden files and there was still nothing in my DRM folder. So just for kicks I deleted the folder and put a clean DRM folder in its place. Still have the same problem. I talked to another guy who said to try uninstalling my devices under the Safe Mode which I did, but that didn't work either. I looked in my Control Panel under Report Problems and Solutions and I had 47 times this message came up "Digital Cable device registration application stopped working" so I sent it in through there report process and it now says it is being researched. I am about to wipe the drive and start over, but I am afraid I might have problems registering my Vista again, plus I would be looking at about 10 to 12 hours downloading all the updates and installing all my programs again. I thought about doing an install over the top, but I am leary about other issues coming up and I want a clean load like I have now. OH the joys of working on computers! I really appreciate your feedback and am still willing to try anything else you or anyone else might have to offer. THANK YOU!! |

YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! or WOMAN!!!! which ever the case may be. I unchecked the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended) box in Explorer and was able to see another DRM folder. I renamed that folder to DRMbackup, and POW it worked. I just can't tell you how much time and headache you saved me!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME !!!!! |

| Processor upgraded now Windows Media TV tuner does not work
Your welcome, glad to help and thanks for posting that the procedure worked for you. It could help someone else in the future to keep in mind the problems DRM can cause. I've been it the same situation several times and knew clearing the DRM folder worked for MCE 2005 but haven't had to try it on Vista yet. |

I am having this problem after installing a new dual core processor. I have tried the sugestions but to no avail. This problem also affects Zune. And when I go and try to update the drm licence it crashes IE, I do not want to reinstall vista ..... HELp Another reason to hate DRM. |

| Re: Prcessor upgraded now Windows Media TV tuner does not work
I just upgraded to a quad core and had the same issues listed here, the fixes also worked (a BIG thanks by the way) I had IE crash on me too, but I got it worked out by starting up in safe mode with networking, taken care of both of the DRM folders while in safe mode and going to the the site mentioned for the reset http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506 it was the only way I could get IE not to crash while trying to upgrade. By the way I am using Vista Ultimate 32bit. I am very happy that I found this site this time before I wiped out my HDD again, which is what I did last time when I upgraded my CPU. |
