Vista Windows Media Center can't play Mpeg2 files

This is Windows Vista based desktop with Media Center. I borrowed a DVD from my friend which has few movies in Mpeg2 format. I copied all those videos on my hard drive. Later when I tried playing them in Media Center, it wont play. But when I try playing the same movie directly from DVD to media Center, it plays fine. Then whats the problem with the files copied on HDD?

I think the DVD from which you copied the movies would be commercial DVD. You cannot copy files from any such DVD to your hard drive due to protection. Hence it is not playing up from HDD. Also MCE DVD player software can't recognize folders on HDD. So you should better download/install VLC Player. It is open source program and see if they can play those files.
