Vista Windows Media Center can't play Mpeg2 files

I have Windows Media Center in my computer, and this is my problem: Windows
Media Center can play Mpeg2 videos stored in a DVD, but can't reproduce those
same files stored in the hard-drive. What's the difference?...Does anybody
knows why this happens?...

What type of DVD? if it is a commercial DVD you cant just copy the files
from
the DVD to the hard drive as they are protected... you have to copy them
using
another method....

Re: Vista Windows Media Center can't play Mpeg2 files

Hi, Buellpilot. Thanks for reponding to my questions.
It's a DVD-R disc. I'm using a home dvd player/recorder (Toshiba) to record
some TV shows and soccer games. The dvd-recorder output are .vob and .ifo
files , both Mpeg2 format. Then I 'm copying those files to a hard drive.
Windoes Media Center can play those files using "play DVD", but it can't even
see them in the hard-drive. If I click in any of the files once they are in
the HD , and then click on "open with" and choose Windows Media Center, the
apllication does nothing. Are those files somehow protected too?.

Re: Vista Windows Media Center can't play Mpeg2 files

The MCE DVD player software can't recognize folders on the hard drive.
Some programs can, though, such as the downloadable VLC player (it's
free).
