| Media Center Unknown Discovery Service Error 14
I am trying to set up my media center guide. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate. After I enter my zip code, it says connecting to the internet, then it says downloading, then it quickly pops up "unknown discovery service error. code: 14". After researching this, it is usually due to your date and time being wrong on your computer or router. Not my problem. It can also be due to https settings on your computer that prevent media center from communicating with the server. Again, not my problem. So what else could be wrong here? I can't seem to find a way to fix this! Thanks for any help! |

Can the machine make any HTTPS connection? It happens if network or proxy server blocks HTTPS. regards, S.Sengupta[MS-MVP] Will wrote: > I am trying to set up my media center guide. But on second thought, what do I need to do to test to make sure that my computer can make the HTTPS connections that are needed? Try to browse any secure Web sites, you may receive the following message in the browser window if the browser can't support it:- 'The page cannot be displayed' Additionally, you may be unable to download files from secure Web sites. regards, S.Sengupta[MS-MVP] Will wrote: > But on second thought, what do I need to do to test to make sure that my > computer can make the HTTPS connections that are needed? > > "Will" wrote: > > >>Yes, my computer can make HTTPS connections. >> >>"S.Sengupta" wrote: >> >> >>>Can the machine make any HTTPS connection? >>>It happens if network or proxy server blocks HTTPS. >>> >>>regards, >>>S.Sengupta[MS-MVP] >>> >>>Will wrote: >>> >>>>I am trying to set up my media center guide. I tried what you suggested, and I couldn't find a single secure website that I couldn't access. Therefore, HTTPS must not be the cause of my problem. Hey guys, Just happend across this page. I have seen this error mess with alot of people in the past. This may sound silly but could you please check your system time settings. This error usually means that you have the wrong date set or the wrong time. It can happen if you are more than 15mins out. Lemmie know how you get on. Ciao |

Checking the time and date worked for me. Thanks. I'd forgotten I'd changed it. |
