Vista Media Center Application Failure

Hello,

I keep getting the following error message everytime I go to LIVE TV, RECORDED PROGRAMS, or GUIDE on my Vista Home Premium Media Center.

"Application Failure - A critical Windows Media Center process has failed.
Please restart the computer and try again.

Then it goes on about contacting the hardwarre manu. for assistance."

I have tried rebooting... I tried resetting the program up (which is what my hardware people reccomended) not sure what else I can do? Any ideas?

I do not want to reformat my computer as there is tons of data on it that would take weeks to get back.

Hi Ryan

I have just had some success with exactly the same problem on Vista
Home Premium. A friend read somewhere a similar problem with a corrupt
media data store in XP. All I did was rename the
mediacenterdatastore.db found under C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Ehome to
something else (i actuall added old to the name but it doesnt matter
in retrospect you could probably delete it). I then rebooted the PC
launched media centre and all solved!

By the way if you cant see this folder you have to turn on view hidden
folders in control panel folder options. Hope that helps and its in
time to sort you out.. have fun!

Kind Regards

Andy

Re: Vista Media Center Application Failure

Hi Andy,
Afraid your solution didn't work for me. Media Center seems to be unable to
download the TV Programme Guide, so unsure where the problem lies.
