I wonder if, during shutdown, something is failing - and therefore your PC is restarting (I know that sounds odd...). Right click on My Computer, Properties, then click the Advanced tab. Click on Settings on Startup and Recovery. Untick the Automatically restart box. OK out. Then try to shutdown again. What you really want is for it to Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and then you will see the error message that is causing the failure. Write it down. You can then google for that, to see what to do next. It still restarted itself right after I shut it down. What happens if you try to shut down by pressing and holding the power button on the base unit? Do you have Roxio? - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=311806 http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm If so, I'd try uninstalling it? Maybe take out any USB devices you don't need? How about the other suggestions I made? Your error codes seem to be pointing at Movie maker? If you were having problems with your memory, you could try some memory diagnostic sofware:- http://www.memtest.org/ or http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp If you were having disk problems, you could try CHKDSK again? My pc reports no blue screen. I shut down, and remain off, but if I hybernate the system, at the end of hybernation it shuts down, and after one second it turn in on again. I've called Intel (my mainboard) but the say that depends from the Operating system. They know the problem but they don't know how to solve it. |

It sounds like standby is working perfectly. What is wrong with that? Why don't you use standby rather than hibernate? The standby lef the pc on. I want to hibernate it to left it off for more hours. To another pc, after the shutdown, it stop, shutdown, ... and after a second it turn itself on and restart. There's a patch??? "Eric Baines" wrote: > It sounds like standby is working perfectly. What is wrong with that? I'm sorry - I don't know about the restart problem. But standby should switch everything off (screen, disks, fans, everything) apart from keeping a small amount of power to the RAM to keep the session data. I'd have a look in the BIOS to see it there are any power saving settings for Standby or Hibernate that might help. If not, I'd have a look in power settings in Control panel, to see if there is anything in there. I also wonder if you have any periferals which are set to 'wake' the PC - and which are doing that (eg keyboard, mouse etc). So I'd have a look in device manager to see if any have power tabs showing as 'allow this device to wake the PC'? Despite i've deactivated in bios setting the wake up on lan and any other think that could wake my pc, in the properties of my Network Adapter in Systems, there was wake on lan active. So I've deactivated and all work fine. Finally I could suspend my pc!!! Now I've another problem related to. When I suspend, before that the pc save the memory on disk, it shut down for a second all the disk, then it turn it on again, an then suspend. How can I prevent the disk stop before the suspend? | RE: very strange phenomena(pc shutdown issue)
I'm not sure. It sounds like you are still using hibernate, which I don't use. That takes a copy of all the session information and saves it to disk, and then powers down the PC. It sound like this process might have two stages - maybe getting the PC to a state where it can be hibernated and then writing the session information to disk as the second stage. This might give the effect you describe. I use Standby, which leaves the session information in RAM, but otherwise is exactly the same as hibernate. I would think that is the way to stop the effect you describe.
