Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library.

Hi,

This is my first question ever asked here so hopefully I get some good help
:). I have windows vista basic home edition for a laptop.

Recently WMP has not been monitoring my folders. When I press F3 to add
folders, I add my music folders, but than it doesnt do anything. It just
closes without searching for the files. Weird :(. I had about 4 folders that
would be monitored, but now they dont even show up in the dialog box. Than
when I try to delete music from my exsisting library it doesnt allow me to. I
delete them but they still show up. My problem is I cant add or even delete
music from my library. I don't know what is up. Maybe someone here can help
me.

Thanks,
Justin

Try clicking the Advanced button, you should be able to specify the
folders to monitor from there.

Note that the folders need to be accessible to your PC user account -
that would exclude folders under "My Documents\My Music" which belong
to other users of the PC (and which are private to them)

Yes, I already know that. There in lies my problem. When I set folders to
monitor they disappear right away, when u click ok to search for the files it
doesn't do anything. I cant add or delete songs to my library. I have 2000
songs in my library, but for some reason the folders that where monitored no
longer are. I cant even delete songs in my library that are already there.
Something is up I dont know what.

Re: Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library

Right click one of the folders you're trying to monitor.

Check the folder isn't set as Read Only. Then click Permissions and
ensure your user account has 'full access'. Finally, find a media file
in a subfolder of the monitored folder you're checking, and repeat
those checks on an individual media file (eg MP3 or WMA file)

Re: Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library

Thank you for ur help, but I have done all of what you have suggested.
Everything is in order. My problem is still an issue. I can't monitor any
folders in WMP 11. I select a folder to monitor, it adds it, but than doesn't
look at any media files. Than when I go to add another folder, the previously
added folder is gone and no files are added. I cant even delete files from my
exsisting library. This is really weird. Not sure what is up. Any other
suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Re: Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library

Hmm sorry I'm more or less out of ideas - it's not something I've ever
encountered or seen online.

What happens if you create a new user account on the PC - it should
build a complete new user profile, and allow a new library to be
created for that user - perhaps that's worth trying.

Re: Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library

Hi
I had the same problem
I deleted the library file (you have to locate somewhere in applications
data folder) and then a add all the media to the library again. It solved the
problem

RE: Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library.

Hi Justin,

I had the very same problem a few months ago. The result.... I went back to
XP.

I'm back with Vista now and the same problem has occured yet again.

Here is my solution which I've just found to work.

On the folder options dialogue box you need to make sure that "Hide
protected operating system files" is UNTICKED first, also try TICKING "Show
hidden files and folders".

Now in Explorer navigate to the following folder:

C:\Users\YOUR_LOGIN_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player\

Now you need to find any files named

"CurrentDatabase_360.wmdb"
"CorruptDatabase_360.wmdb"

Delete these 2 files.

Run Media Player, go to library dialogue box and your folders should all be
back as normal.

This may not be the 'correct' way to fix this problem but it just worked for
me.

This an on going issue that MS needs to fix somehow.

Regards,

Phil

RE: Can't monitor folders! Can't add/delete from exsisting library

Hi Desjardo,

After having many many problems with Vista including this threads issue with
MP11 I've just gone back to XP and intend to stay with it until I upgrade my
PC.

I used this solution many times to 'fix' MP monitoring but got so frustrated
doing so I've defected back to XP.

Regards,

Phil

Thanks to all of you for the ideas. Unfortunately, none have worked for my
wife. I have no problem in XP Pro, she cannot add in XP Home. She will try
to reinstall WMP 10.
Again, thanks. If nothing else, it is good to know she is not alone on this
issue.

Did you reset the library?
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary

There was a library corruption fix for Vista released a while ago that would
help Vista users.
