| Windows Media Player 11 running very slow
Starting just the other day, music on WMP11 is very choppy, so is the frames per second on the screen (specifically, 3D games). My RAM keeps fluctuating up and down randomly by 20-50 MB every second, sometimes more or less. The processing of the computer itself is slow at times as well. It's really strange because I have NEVER had a problem with it until now. When it's on, and playing music, I notice the RAM fluctuations, but when I close it, they stop. Also, Tabbing between WMP and another program is slow; WMP loads the interface very slowly every time. I also did a test using WinAMP and playing a 3D game as I had trouble with that before, and the choppiness stopped. What's wrong with my Windows Media Player (Version 11)? Like I said, it's worked perfectly fine until the other day. My computer: Dell XPS 410 OS: Windows XP SP2 Any other information needed I'll add if asked. |

From that box, choose to show Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab. Click the CPU or Memory heading to order the results by their respectiv system resource usage. You should pretty quickly see what program's using (eg) 80% CPU, or large amounts of memory, or causing fluctuations in the memory usage. Try to post the top 3-4 items names here and I'll see if I can think what each one might be up to. Usually turning off background stuff like virus scanners, bittorrent, windows update etc is useful when testing this. | Windows Media Player 11 running very slow - Neil Smith[MVP Digital Media]
hi, i'm experiencing the same problem as antoshi. windows media player 11 memory usage just keeps on increasing that i have to force it to close. this happens even if it's not playing a file. i've been using the player for 6 months and never had this problem. i tried systems restore to no avail. i also tried uninstalling the program and it rolled back to windows media player 9. no problems with memory usage on wmp9, but i'd much rather use 11 because of the search feature. so i updated wmp9 (using update in help) and was prompted to install wmp11... and i'm back to square 1. hope you could help. the processes which are using up the most memory right now are: wmplayer.exe 150,000 K firefox.exe 79,000 K explorer.exe 29,000 K svchost.exe 27,000 K guard.exe 12,000 K iFrmewrk.exe 12,000 K Dot1XCfg.exe 8,000 K thanks. | RE: Windows Media Player 11 running very slow
for those running windows vista I found this cured my problem, which was it took up to a minute to start a video or swithch from one music track to another. TRY ยป Solution Click Start, and type sound. Click Sound. In the Sound window, click Speakers/Headphones and then Properties. In the Speakers/Headphones Properties window, click the Enhancements tab. Click to check the Disable All Enhancements checkbox. Click Apply and then OK. In the Speakers/Headphones Properties window, click Apply and then OK. The Sound window closes. REMEMBER TO WRITE THIS DOWN SO IF IT DOESNT WORK U CAN GO BACK TO SQUARE ONE "Antoshi" wrote: > Starting just the other day, music on WMP11 is very choppy, so is the frames > per second on the screen (specifically, 3D games). | Re: Windows Media Player 11 running very slow
I have the same issue. started about 3 days ago. out of the blue, and i dont even have to have anything else running, just wmp alone is all choppy, pressing "next" is now delayed, scrolling the list is sketchy in frame rate. I'm quite confident it's not pc as i play high end 3d gaming with no problems and other music players run fine. My specs are: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @2.66GHz 2.67GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM Ive had this pc for 3 months, and it runs fine, only windows media player 11 is being a complete nuisance with its choppiness, delayed responses and slow loading, (takes about 10-15 seconds for the song to start) (clicking next song and ur lookin at 20-25 seconds)id be ever greatful to get this issue fixed as i like to use WMP. Other notes, WMP when i first load it is fine, after i play 1 song the slowness and other such begin, ive also noticed when i close wmp to try again, the second load time will take ages, i found wen i closed it the first time it was still in Task Manager, so i close it from Task Manager after closing it from the program aswell and retry, and it just happens again, play 1 song, back to sqaure one. I also dont use WMP while doing anything vigorous such as gaming, so it's not a conflict in that area i assume. Thankyou in advance. |
