Motorola DCT3416 Firewire& Vista

Darned PC Magazine got me all excited with the current issue (8/7/07 P.67)
with the "Open Up Your Cable Box" item, describing how to locate and install
drivers for my Motorola DCT3416 cable/PVR from Comcast to allow it to
communicate with Vista Media Center via Firewire. Either I've found the
wrong drivers or I'm just plain dumb but I sure as heck can't make it work.
Has anyone come across a truly "for Dummies" version of how to find and
install drivers and make Media Center recognize the DCT3416?

This helped me record with xpsp2 using my firewire & dct-3416.

You gotta follow the instructions to a T.

For live viewing I spotted this post about videolan, on its forum.
http://forums.techarena.in/newreply....te=1&p=3032606

tvtalkshowshigh made a post there claiming they accomplished watching a live stream and give a vague descrition of how. very vague.

Let me know if you made it work in vista and how, once I get a longer firewire I'm going to give it a try and am usure whether the drivers will work or which is the best software for live viewing. Thanks

Re: Motorola DCT3416 Firewire& Vista

Has anyone tried this on 64-bit Vista? My 64-bit installation doesn't recognize any of these drivers - it doesn't see them as drivers that are related to this hardware, so it won't even begin the installation process. As soon as the firewire connection is made, the three devices appear, but the drivers do not appear to be 64-bit compatible.

Did you ever get this to work - Motorola 3416 & Vista? If so, are you willing to share the answer with me?

I'm having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution? If so, are you willing to share it with me?

any success?

I suppose it is difficult ......... unless you read the previous post, or the original post, or anything in between.

Several members had asked about Vista Media Center via firewire from the DCT3416 and no one had replied in months.

I'm also looking for the answer, so I bumped it to current status rather than starting new thread.

Spend some time on these internet forums, Grasshopper, and you'll get the idea.

Any success at what?

Below is the entire content of your post, it's a little difficult for anyone
to answer your question with the clipped info provided.

Not likely. You haven't quoted any material, and the earlier posts are not
available on my server, as well *many* others. Example: my current server
has a deeper history than the rather popular one I was using, and I still
have nothing.

You are the one that needs to "spend some time" and do some reading on
proper etiquette on newsgroups - clipping threads is considered very
inconsiderate and bad form.

Use a proper newsgroup reader, rather than a web-based one and you get up to
speed on forum use.
