| Where is setting for auto login, which allows MCE to start right u
Hello. We have two Media Center PCs, an HP and a Gateway. The HP had a setting, somewhere in MCE as I recall, which allowed it to log the 'user' on and then start itself up. This is userful in case you lose power while on vacation, and want a reboot to occur and MCE to run. I cannot for the life of me find this setting on the Gateway, in MCE. Can anyone help? It occurs that if there were more than one user, this could be the issue - can anyone confirm? Thank you! |

ont the run dialog box enter; control userpasswords2 untick the option that states that 'Users must enter a username and password...' You will then be prompted to enter the username and password that you wish to have automatically logged on at startup. Thank you so much - it worked like a charm! But I cannot remember the HP needing to be handled this way. Oh well. Again, thanks. That's the procedure for logging the user in, automatically. If you only have one user, with no password, this setting isn't necessary. The option for MCE to autostart at log on is in Media Center's Settings, General, Startup and Window Behavior. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows Media Center\Windows Powered Smart Display\Security Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Per user Group Policy Restrictions for XP Home and XP Pro http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. That's where I must have set the HP; but the Gateway and HP currently have nothing there that is for this - under Startup & Window Behavior, there are 5 possibilities - 1. MC always on top 2. Show "not designed..." 3. Start MC when Windows Starts 4 Show taskbar notif. 5. TV Tips ??? Thank you "Doug Knox - [MS-MVP]" wrote: > That's the procedure for logging the user in, automatically. Hi lomlfoml: Just to be safe, if you want the pc to start back up after a power failure, you might want to check your motherboard bios settings. On some motherboards, there is a setting you need to select for the motherboard to enable re-starting after a power failure. On mine the choice includes re-start after power failure or do not re-start after power failure. I think the default on mine was "do not re-start" after power failure. If you don't want to go into the bios to check, you can unplug the pc while running or switch off the power on the surge protector if it has a switch. When you turn the power back on, you'll find out if the pc is set to re-start after a power outage. xiowan............in tucson "lomlfoml" wrote: > Hello. It may be under another sub-menu. I'm running all Vista machines, now. In Vista its under General, Startup and Window Behavior, Start Windows Media Center when Windows starts. Should be the same. You can also create a shortcut to C:\Windows\Ehome\ehshell.exe and place it in the Startup folder on the Start Menu, if you can't find the setting in MCE. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows Media Center\Windows Powered Smart Display\Security Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Per user Group Policy Restrictions for XP Home and XP Pro http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit.
