AVIVO hardware acceleration

Hi,

Does the vista default mpeg decoder make use of avivo hardware acceleration?
How can I enable the catalyst video enhancements in media center?

Thanks,

Re: AVIVO hardware acceleration

The Vista default MPEG2 decoder just uses standard hardware acceleration
APIs it does not check for and use either the NVIDIA PureVideo or the ATI
AVIVIO APIs.
You wouuld need to install either PowerDVD Ultra or the corresponding
release of WINDVD8 that supports the AVIVIO updates and then change to the
decoder in it to be the preferred decoder.

Thanks, I will try PowerDVD and post the results.

Re: AVIVO hardware acceleration

Note you need PowerDVD ULTRA not the standare PowerDVD 7.
You will need to use the following utility to change the decoder that MC
uses after you install PowerDVD Ultra.

Re: AVIVO hardware acceleration

Hi,

Last night I installed PowerDVD Ultra, then the utility to change the media
center decorders showed serveral Cyberlink decoders. I tried every one of
them but media center always crashed when I tried to watch TV until I changed
back to the default decoders.

PowerDVD worked ok, althought when I tried to change the picture properties
(bright, color, etc.) nothing happened. And there where several options
disabled in the PowerDVD configuration, like deinterlacing. The AVIVO
hardware acceleration was checked in PowerDVD configuration, but changes in
AVIVO configuration didn't have any effect either. Catalyst 3D configuration
works ok. I'm very confused at this time.

What I want right now is to enhance the picture quality (deinterlacing,
deblocking, noise reduction...) in media center and be able to change the
picture properties (bright, color, contrast and saturation). I thought it
should be done through AVIVO or the decoder configuration. Is there any easy
way to accomplish this?

Thanks.

Re: AVIVO hardware acceleration

What is the source and resolution of your video?
Is it possible that your program source was a progresssive one such as 1080p
or 720p in which case no de-interlacing is required.
If not I assume that the decoder is automatically using the ATI chip for all
de-interlacing since that is one of the functions involved in AVIVO
functionality.
I therefor ewould not worry about funcctions that are not available for you
to decide if and how they are done.
It appears that you need to get every thing working in PowerDVD first before
you try again to use the power DVD decoder with Media Center.
