| WMP11 for Vista can't play stream audio from internet radio
I got a new Vista PC with Window Media Center. I was running WMP11 to play stream audio from internet radio stations with no problem. But now it is stopped working every time I click on the internet radio URL link. A pop up window says "There is a problem with the URL or file you are trying to open or play. If you are trying to open an URL, the URL may not be valid...". I tried different internet radio URL link, and no link works. I checked on the internet option and all protocols are checked. Any one has any idea how to fix this problem. |

I was wrestling with this problem for two hours. Here's the stupid thing that finally fixed it: 1.) Go to your Windows Media Player local user profile application folder (eg. "C:\users\Your UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Media") 2.) Rename the "11.0" folder to something else. 3.) Try again, and curse Microsoft. I'd be really happy if somebody had a way to reliably *cause* this corruption of the networking settings files. =\ Try this.. 1) Get AC3 filters and insatall it on ur system...... 2) Update all the drivers (video and sound and many more)........ 3).. Go to internet options.. then to to "security"- make it to Medium, then go to Privacy change setting to medium.. boot ur system and chk... |

I 've been getting the same message lately with WMP 11 on my XP machine when I open attached .wmv files. They worked if I saved them to my HD first, but would not open right from the email. I went to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media (That's were the "search" found it) and the folder there was called 9.0. I changed it to 9.0xx, closed my email program, reopened it, and it worked! I also tried changing it from 9.0 to 11.0, but that did not work. Update - Later in the day the problem returned, and I tried something else I found for a related problem in another forum: I changed that folder back to 9.0 as it was originally. Opened Windows Medial Player. On the menu, selected, Tools, Options, Network. Changed the *Proxy* for Protocall HTTP from *Use Proxy Settings of the Web Browser *to* Autodetect Proxy Settings*. It’s working again for now. We'll see for how long. |

Thanks to TallyOne, that fix worked to get The VISTA XM Gadget working with XM but it didnt work for connecting direct from IE to XM or other radio stations that don't stream with Flash. Any suggestions? |
