Updating "Media Player 9 for Pocket PC" for Use with "Media Player

I have an IPAQ 1945 with Windows Media Player 9 for Pocket PC. I've been
required to download Windows Media Player 11 (if I don't, the update shield
stays in my toolbar), which seems to be incompatible with Media Player 9 for
Pocket PC. When I sync, I get an error message: "Your device is using an
outdated driver that is no longer supported by Windows Media Player. For
additional assistance, click Web Help."
When I click "Web Help" I get:
Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered error message C00D118E while using Windows Media Player.
The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.
Cannot sync with the portable device
Windows Media Player cannot sync with the portable device. The device
firmware is not compatible with Windows Media Player 11.
You might be able to resolve the problem by doing one of the following:
If Windows Media Player 11-compatible firmware is available for your device,
install it.
[etc]
Any suggestions?

There is currently no workaround for this infuriating error message.

I'm only spared from it myself by having bust my Axim X3 a couple of
months ago, else I'd have taken a bloody axe to WMP11 by now.

Not sure if my previous replay got through, but I wanted to thank you and
Dale for taking the time to reply. As I said earlier, when you're a voice
crying in the wilderness, it's nice to hear another howl in the distance.
Thanks.

Hello, This is LaMar. I've got a 4155 Pocket pc and i'm getting the same
error code from 9 to 11. Even my Bearshare media account won;t work with this
older driver. Did you find out a cure for this driver? If so where do I get
it ? Thanks LaMar

Re: Updating "Media Player 9 for Pocket PC" for Use with "Media Player

Most of the portable device support for pocket PC devices was broken,
some time between the last WMP11 Beta and the release version.

I've never found a workaround (I had a Dell Axim X3i which worked in
the beta but failed in the RTM)

Real player 11 has pretty good device support, and can play and
transcode windows media and other file types - you might want to give
the free version a go : http://uk.real.com/player/win/

Sorry !
Cheers - Neil
