shell32.dll Error

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not
run properly. The relocation occured because the DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for
Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a
new DLL.

I tried downloading at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/en-us
but it still doesn't work. Help please?

I have exactly the same problem as Linda. What do we do?

RE: shell32.dll Error

I'm also having this problem with two programs, a startup service called
quickstart.exe, and File Manager which I copied over from Windows NT and have
been using long term.

Again this only started today.

I did some digging, and I found that a recent Windows Update was the cause.

My temporary solution:
1: Disconnect from the Internet and ensure reconnection is not possible (for
example, turn off your modem/router)
2: Use System Restore to go back a day or two to when things worked.
3: Once your computer is back to a fully working state, turn off Automatic
Updates, or set it to Notify of new updates only. And Make sure it stays this
way until this problem is sorted.

RE: shell32.dll Error

Interesting, but running the restore: nothing was removed.
Seems you can also open Control Panel - go to the And/Remove programs (make
sure you click the show updates option at the top of the window) At least
here in Denmark (Danish XP Home) this update was numbered (KB925902). Remove
it and your system should start without the error. But ms should provide a
fix for the fix this as it was supposed to fill a securiy hole.
PS! I haven't seen problems even I just removed the error message and
continued to work on the PC. So if you delete the update then follow Sean's
advice to disable automatic update but be careful out there on the internet
until a fix is provided

RE: shell32.dll Error

That only works for the Realtek software, I downloaded that and it did
nothing, I still had to roll back.

RE: shell32.dll Error

Sorry have no real clue - could have to do with the windows load order. You
might want to try this advice to se if it can fix the problem or at least
give some more info to go from
