Re: Windows Explorer has stopped working..

The problems you ar edescribeing are serious and I would suggest for the
quickest possible fix. Backup all your important data off of your
laptop. Either external harddrive or CD/DVD. Then get your restore disk
and restore your laptop back to factory.

Re: Windows Explorer has stopped working.

I had the same problem. My Vista, factory installed on an HP. It works
on the same DSL server in my home as in my office. I live 3 minutes
away from my office. I was beginning to think it was the server,
Verizon, wiring in the building since we have 3 computers with Vista.
At home we have one XP and one Vista. They both work at home. I tried
the solution on the Microsoft support site, Method 3. It works for a
while and then goes down, bringing everone in the office down. We are
reverting to XP PRO on one machine in the office, the main computer.
The computer should be back today and we will see if that one stays up.
Anyway, I am now going to attempt Method 4 from the Microsoft Support
page and see if that works. It takes longer and is more complicated,
but if it works I will be happy but report back here tonight.

RE: Windows Explorer has stopped working.

Had the same problem recently. Took pooter to Best Buy where I bought it, and
2 Geek Squad guys said that my IE was corrupted, caused by my programs
Registry Mechanic, and Evidence Eliminator (a program that erases alot of
uneeded trash in my computer). I didn't hesitate to uninstall "EE" but
Registry Mech seems to be a long-time classic. Your thoughts??

Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working

Every once in a while I get the above message. The most recent, a few
minutes ago I clicked on "Details" and got this:

Whenever I've had this crash, open programs seem to continue working and
explorer has always re-opened when I click the "restart explorer" button,
but I'm wondering just what might be causing this.

Re: Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working

I have this problem on an Ultimate x32 system. The MS technet forum has
many pages of problems and suggestions. It is a problem with Vista, and
MS has no solution to offer as yet. Interestingly, I am also running an
Ult. x64 box and have no problem.

Re: Windows Explorer has Stopped Working

Glad to hear that the indescribable thing works.

Now if DiskCleanup, as suggested by Colin, doesn't work then:
1. use the good ol' DOS approach, i.e., run Cmd.exe as Administrator,
navigate to the directory, and use the DEL command

or

my favorite, is CCleaner from Piriform. At the to of my "must have"
utilities list is CCleaner. When you see how great it is, then be sure to
visit the Piriform site again and make a donation as this wonderful program
is freeware.

Windows Explorer has stopped working

Each time I closed the Windows Explorer after exploring my files. I received
a dialogue box sayinig Windows Explorer has stopped working with 2 options.
1) Check online for a solution and restart the program
2) Restart the program
After I click option 1 nothing happens until recently I realized I actually
have to go the the System & Maintenance page under Problem Reports and
Solutions but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem either.

Hi there!

I have as well been experiencing the "Windows Explorer has stopped working" message, thus I thought it'd perhaps have been more appropriate to reply to one of these topics instead of opening a new one.

The problem I'm experiencing is that sometimes when I right-click on whatever file (usually a .rar, .exe etc.) and select "Scan for viruses" option by Kaspersky, that's when the Windows Explorer would crash and show the "Windows Explorer has stopped working" msg and then offer to look for solutions.

I'm freshly off re-installing Vista, but it have actually experienced it before re-installing it too. Anybody know what I should do??

Here are the problem signatures for your reference:

Windows Explorer has stopped working

I'm having the same problem and here's what I found at http://newsonvista.blogspot.com/2008...d-working.html

Download a file to modify the registry
Download and run a file to modify the registry. To do this follow these steps.

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...MSKB946758.exe (http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...mskb946758.exe)
2. Download the MSKB946758.exe file. Save the file to the desktop.
3. Double-click the MSKB946758.exe file, accept the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then unzip the file to the desktop.
4. Right-click the "Familysafety critical update_explorer crash.reg" file, select Open with, and then click Registry Editor. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation User Account Control permission, type the password, or click Continue.
5. When you will receive a message that asks whether you are sure that you want to add the information to the registry, click Yes.

Re: Windows Explorer has Stopped Working

This can be solved. Whenever you receive such message please look out
for 'problem and solution' icon in the system tray immediately after the
problem happened. Following the solution mentioned in that will almost
solve the problem.

For me, explorer is getting restarted because of CLMedia.dll which is
related to CyberLink Powercinema suit. I have installed patch for that
and I didn't get any problems after that. The cause of this is that you
might have set the action to show the icons in thumbnail format which
will be failed by powercinema. So if possible change the view to some
other than thumbnails/tiles.

the link is http://docs.cyberlink.com/oem/microsoft/enu/index.jsp

Re: windows Explorer has stopped working

I have posted solution earlier.
there is a program which is not compatible with your windows. So try to find it.
In my case it was FDM (Free Download Manager). I uninstalled it and problem solved. I installed again after a week to confirm and found same result. I tried the same with other systems also and found same result. I downloaded latest version of FDM and installed it with no problem.
