| XBOX 360 can't connect after CableVision setup
Hello, My XBOX360 is wired to my Linksys BEFSR41 router and my connection from the XBOX to the Media Center used to work fine. My problem started after I switched my DSL connection to Cablevision's Optimum online using Scientific Atlanta (model DPX2203) cablemodem. When I turn the cable modem off, my Media Center PC can see my XBOX360. The XBOX360 has an IP address on the network and has the gateway pointing to address 192.168.1.1 (The linksys router). I setup Media Sharing on Windows Media Player v11. I can access the Media Center PC from the XBOX and everything works fine. BUT..... When I turn on the cable modem, I cannot get the XBOX 360 to connect to the Media Center PC. I've been able to replicate this several times. I've also seen other posts in the xbox forums about this problem, but no solution. Is it possible that the Cablemodem has a built in Firewall? Or, is there a firewall in the Linksys BEFSR41 (firmware version 1.04.06) When the XBOX 360 tries to connect to Media Center Extender I get the message: 'PC Select Failed' on the XBOX. W: 0000-000B X: 0000-F001 Y: 0000-0000 Z: 8000-4005 1. I turned off my Windows firewall 2. I do not have any other firewall running 3. The following services are running: SSDP Discovery Service Universal Plug and Play Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Thanks for your help. Regards, Gloria |

| RE: XBOX 360 can't connect after CableVision setup
Your router will have a firewall inside it, which you should be able to access at 192.168.1.1 I would recommend turning off internet connection sharing on your media center PC< and making sure the Xbox is plugged directly into the router. It should get it's own IP address (which you can verify in th router). Make sure your Media Center PC has a separate IP address then the Xbox, and that no other devices are present that you do not own. You should then be able to access your Xbox by the IP address. |

Additional note: because the firewall in your router is on the WAN/public side, it will not impact connectivity between your PC and Xbox (both of which are on the LAN/private side) did u ever figure out the solution to this problem? I have the same exact problem with cablevision and the modem. |
