backup 144gb Hard Drive to an external hard drive of 250gb

Hi, I’m using XP Media center Edition pc and have a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition HDD to keep my system backup. Today when I started backing up my system, the progress gets stopped after backing up just 4GB. I don’t want to do anything which will corrupt the backup hence dint tried. Is it because of NTFS or FAT32 partition types on my WD external HDD?

What should I do now to complete the process successfully? Please help.

Yes, may be. Currently it would be having FAT32 file system hence not able to copy more than 4GB. The only way left I think is to format the drive using explorer and choose NTFS as the file system. and start the backup process again since beginning.

Who told that FAT32 only supports 4GB maximum file size. It is 32 GB and can be as large as 64GB.
