backup 144gb Hard Drive to an external hard drive of 250gb (format

I started to backup my media center edition computer to a external hard drive
and the progress was stoppted after only 4GB was backed up.

Something abot formatting the external to NTFS vs FAT32 ?

How do I proceed? The external hard drive is Western Digital My Book
Essential Edition. I am running XP Media center Edition and muct run a
completete install of Media EDition 2005 on my Dell Dimension 8400.

Can anyone help?

I'd format the drive using explorer and choose NTFS as the file system.

4Gb is the maximum partition size for a FAT partition I believe.

No, it is the maximum file size for Fat32. Partitions can be as large as
64Gb.

I am guessing the backup program creates one large file, which means the
backup drive must be NTFS
