Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install of

After installing MCE05 without a remote, I found I needed one to change a
number of settings. I ordered one from Newegg, a source recommended by
Microsoft. It arrived today, but when I plugged it in and XP recognized it
as an e-home infrared device, MCE05 said it had no drivers for it.
I read another post that said I should copy the contents of the the
driver.cab contained in the i386 folder of Disk 1, and direct the
installation there, but that doesn't work either.

How the heck do you get this thing to work? Or is this defective? When you
press the buttons on the remote, the receiver lights up, but MCE05 just isn't
home.

Re: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install of

Down load the drivers directly from ATI, that's what i did, works perfectly.
Try this link, but if it doesn't work for you - go to www.ati.com, drivers
and software tab at the top, select windows media center as the OS, media
center tuner drivers, ehome - here is the link i got from that:
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/w...=11&submit.y=6

good luck,

Craig

Re: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install

Craig, isn't that for the entire e-home tuner card? I don't have one of
those. I have a PVT-250 and don't want to bork that. I'm looking JUST for
the remote control USB driver.

Re: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install

It is a Microsoft branded remote (Model 1039) that MCE05 *sees* as a e-home
remote, but it isn't one. The drivers suggested are for a NTSC tuner card
manufactured by ATI. Perhaps this remote was, as well, but I hesitate to put
ATI tuner card drivers in a machine with a Hauppauge NTSC tuner card and a
Fusion III-T ATSC tuner card. I guess I will as a last resort. So far, my
entire MCE box is a very expensive desk ornament. <sigh>

Re: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install

I may have a clue, found after a day of Googling. I'll try it tonight and
see if I can make the Microsoft Hardware work with the Microsoft software.
Why should this be such an ordeal?

RE: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install of

I just purchased the generic version of Model 1039 from Newegg. I have the
same problem XP recognized the device but had no drivers. Did you find a
solution?

Re: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install

After two days on the phone with Dell, they decided to reinstall the
operating system. This solved the problem. I'm now using the new remote and
IR receiver with MCE 2004.

RE: Installing drivers for e-home (Microsoft) remote AFTER install

Pacman, I got mine fixed! After no reply, I went and backed up all data and
reloaded Windows MCE and now my remote works. What I did was I put a 20G Hard
Drive as C: and then put my bigger disk as D: instead of having just one.
That way I can put my data on D:, and if needed, I will just reload the
operating system again. But make sure if you do this that you backup your
data and also leave the transceiver plugged in so it will pick it up
correctly, even after all the updates are loaded. I have looked everywhere
for answers, and the only thing that I ran across was that an update might
have caused it not to work correctly. Not sure what happened, but now mine is
working after I reloaded.
