| Media Streaming outside LAN
Hi Everyone: I am trying to build an internet radio station for University students. I decided to use Windows technologies: 1. Windows Media Encoder 9 2. Windows Server 2003 (Windows Media Services) I have the following setup: I have windows server 2003 box running Windows media services and also a web server. I also have two boxes running XP SP2. All three machines are networked using a switch and MSHOME workgroup. I use one of the boxes to play media and also run the encoder on the same box. The encoder is configured to use port 27 and the pull method to connect to Media server. I also configured a publish point on the Media server to receive the stream and broadcast it as a unicast, then I built a webpage with embedded Windows player to access the publishing point. Then I used my other XP box to open the broadcast. So I open the browser and type http://Myserver as soon as I do that the page I created loads up with the embedded player, then start buffering the plays the broadcast. I also have a static IP configured on my router, therefore when I try to access the same webpage from work the webpage loads up ok and the player displays the word ready but does not play the stream. Can anyone please direct me how to get the broadcast to work from outside my LAN? |

In that case Encoder initiates publishing point, instead of Server calling encoder. Other than that you can configure your router to "port forward" or create "virtual server", by exposing your encoder to Internet. Jere .....
