Media player 11 not loading songs and cant add songs

To resolve this problem, clear the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:
Exit Windows Media Player.
For Windows XP:

Click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

For Windows Vista:

Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.
Restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:
Exit Windows Media Player.
If you are running Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft, and then click OK.

If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.
Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
Restart Windows Media Player.

I have the same problem. Media Player 11 has worked fine for a long time,
then iTunes was installed for my wife's iPod. I have since uninstalled
iTunes but Media Player will still not find the music files on my computer.
The monitor files list is always blank even if I add some files to it. It
just doesn't seem to search for music or pictures at all?

Stop the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" in the Services
control panel.
This is mentioned on my site too. =)

I have tried the media library reset but the "Current Database_360" file
refuses to be deleted. The error message says it is being used by a program
but all programs have been closed. I even rebooted the computer to make sure
and still it wouldn't allow it to be deleted???

hello, i tried doing both the things you suggested, it said the location was
invalid and i tried different locations and none worked, when i go to add
music to the library with the add to library option i get my music folder and
manually add it to be monitered and click ok and then it does nothing, any
ideas? it wont search for music ethier

This is the first time I post here.

I have a little bit different problem. I can add songs to the library but WM11 doesn't add some songs. I tried to clear all data of Media Player 11.
And tried to search my music for library.

(I have a huge collection of music by the way)
WM11 found about 600,000 songs from my PC and took about 5hours to finish adding songs to its library. However the progressing indicator showed WM 11 added only about 450,000 songs.
WM11 doesn't add some songs. About 150,000 are missing.
All songs are of course stored in the same folder and They are all MP3 format.

If I tried to play missing albums and songs one by one manually WM11 will add them for some reasons. But it's a very pain for me because my collection is very big and I even don't know which song are missing some times.

This problem actually happened before. At that time, whenever I found some missing files I added them one by one manually.

Recently I bought a media center extender and I realized media center didn't find some songs either. I cannot add songs to the extender one by one like MW11.
So I started searching a solution in Google and I ended up being here.

There are also two more strange things.
1st, When I search songs for library again, WM11 show less songs at the second time(I think about same numbers of songs which added to the library. about only 450,000 songs)
2nd, When I search songs with Winamp, Winamp add all songs.

Please someone helps me. I don't know what to do now.

Are the missing MP3 files marked as Read-Only in windows explorer ?

Right-click 5 or 10 of the example files, choose Properties from the
menu shown, and make sure 'read only' box is not ticked. If they then
add to the library, that's your problem.

Otherwise, it could be broken or incompatible MP3 tags, which is
harder to solve - there are several tag fixers / renamer programs
available - though I haven't used them, other newsgroup posters have.

I checked my music folder. Actually read-only box was not checked but blue(?) for some reasons. Anyway I tried to unmarked read-only box.
And then i tried to search song again. This time WM11 found only about 450,000 out of 600,000. It is probably the number which WM11 added to the library at the first time...

It doesn't seem like the read-only problem. so, it could be a tag or a broken MP3 problem?

What is a suggested software to fix them? I googled and found a software called "Tag&Rename" but I'm not sure if this is a correct software.


Also I don't know what do you mean by a broken MP3 files. I can listen them...How can I fix a broken MP3 files?

There is an upper limit on the library database file itself, which is
1GB. You can find the (hidden) folder containing that detailed here :

The library database in WMP11 still ends in .wmdb but from memory it
ends in _419.wmdb (in any case it's the largest file in the folder)

and carried out the instructions of"How can I create a new library?"
I suggest u to carryout those instructions

After I pressed F3 button there was a Pop up window called "Add to Library"
suddenly i got remember i selected a folder contains with songs with this Add to library i realized that all of those songs cannot be added to the"Recently Added section" so i removed the selection of the that folder ,then bingo all the songs can be added into the library

suddenly i got remember i selected a folder contains with songs by a mistake before few days ago with this Add to library i realized that all of those songs cannot be added to the"Recently Added section" so i removed the selection of the that folder ,then bingo all the songs can be added into the library

if some folders are selected with Add to Library pop up window definitely it will
remove that folder from library and wouldn't allow u to add some of songs
