| Media Center doesn't give me the option to select anything but "antenna" as a signal source. :(
This is my second TV tuner that I'm trying to get working. It is a pinnacle PCTVHD pro stick that does ATSC, NTSC, and clear QAM. My system is a 64-bit Vista Ultimate with plenty of power. Anyhoo, I'm going crazy trying to set it up. The software it came with can use it fine, but not Media Center (which pinnacle claims is compatible). Here's what I get when I run the TV Signal setup wizard: Confirm Your Region --> Download TV Setup Options (takes a few seconds) --> Automatic TV Signal Setup (I select "I will manually configure my TV signal") --> Guide download and terms of service --> Enter zip code (98002) --> Download TV Program Guide --> Digital TV Antenna Strength... At this point I'm wondering why did it think I have a digital antenna attached to it? I didn't select anything. If I go back a few steps, I see a different screen in the Guide section that says "Select TV Signal Provider". All that is there is "Antenna". How can I tell Media Center that I have analog and digital cable as my signal type? Thanks in advance to whomever responds! I'm definitely going insane! -M |

I had a similar problem. Try automatically configuring your TV signal instead of doing it manually. I think the auto configuration will detect all source options that you have connected. Yeah, I tried that. Same deal-io. If you are using an antenna, how is your signal being received? If you are using s-video from a box, you may need to manually configure it. That is only a single tuner, so it will receive analog or digital. -- James Orlando (Goofy says "Hey!"), FL "Us" <mneely1@comcast.net> wrote in message news:#WV1vSgRJHA.5568@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Yeah, I tried that. You need to download and install latest installer available for Windows Media Center(version 3.2),which is compatible with your tuner card.Visit Pinnacle's support site for your specific tuner. This will allow you to configure Vista MCE. regards, S.Sengupta[MS-MVP] Us wrote: > This is my second TV tuner that I'm trying to get working. | Re: Media Center doesn't give me the option to select anything but "antenna" as a signal source. :( AFAIK your stick does not have a hardware encoder chip for NTSC or a BDA driver with a built in software encoder so the NTSC tuner is not supported. Since Vista MC does not support clear QAM the only support in VISTA MC is with an antenna to receive OTA ATSC programs. | Re: Media Center doesn't give me the option to select anything but "antenna" as a signal source. :(
I'm having a hard time believing this is the Tuner. I'm on my 3rd one now. Each of them has the same problem. The latest one is approved for Media Center and Vista x64. (It's a Kworld USB ASTC TV Stick). When I hook it up, Media Center will only have a signal type of "Antenna" and won't let me change to anything else. If I actually do hook up an antenna to it it'll work. However, using the ArcSoft software, I can see all the cable channels fine. One guess is that there is some configuration step on original setup that I specified antenna in or something? Perhaps KWorld is false in saying that it is "Fully Compatible with Media Center". I really don't want to attempt to get and try a 4th one... Any suggestions here? :) Again: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Plenty of power/RAM kworld USB ATSC TV Stick Thanks in advance! -M "Us" <mneely1@comcast.net> wrote in message news:4510C3B8-E0A0-4D5C-87F6-9E5AFDB2A6D8@microsoft.com... > This is my second TV tuner that I'm trying to get working. The Term compatible with Vista does not meant that all Vista applications will work with all features it does mean that the product and the applications supplied by the vendor with the product will work with Vista. Also it is important to know that when you have a hybrid tuner like the ones you have tried that MC will not allow both tuners to be configured since both tuners can not be used concurrently. Again you are not being given the opportunity to configure the analog tuner because it does not have a MCE compatible BDA driver using a software encoder since the tuner does not have an onboard encoder chip. None of the MC behavior I have described is applicable to other TV applications as you have found out. MS has two definitions "Compatible with Vista" means the product from the vendor will run on Vita. "Citified for Vista" means that the Vista applications will also run with the product but there may be limitations in the product that prevent all features of a Vista application from running. | Re: Media Center doesn't give me the option to select anything but
I went to get it, as I have the same exact problem. The only versions of 3.2 there(at the pinnacle link) were mce2005 and vista 32bit. When downloading it, the filename kind of lead to maybe it might be for 64bit also, since it had mce,xp,vista in the filename. Nut when run to install, says MUST be for 32bit OS.. You know where a 64 bit version is? Pinnacle is of no help what so ever. Spent awhile on their chat with so called support. They say they dont recommend using it with 3rd party software such as windows media center and wont support that. We should only use their pctvpro program, which is crappy and sloppy. You also cant use it with a media center extender. They sent me back to MS to fix its' support for the card(usb)...etc..etc. As Us said above, it will work, analog/digital/cable with Pinnacles' pctvPro, but windows media center automatically assumes its digital only, and never gives another choice. Got any other ideas/tricks up your sleeve?....please..pretty please..
