| Vista movie maker crashes adding video to timeline
I've done this before with no problem but now it does not work. I recorded a TV show using Media Center. I open Movie Maker and import the file. It's a 3.76 GB dvr-ms file. I can play the file in the preview with no problems. When I drop the file on the timeline, I get an error message that just says "movie make has stopped working". I've disabled all filters listing under Tools and there is no change. I tried Create Clips and got the same error. I think I had Pinnacle Studio installed the last time I did this and have since uninstalled it but a couple of Pinnacle filters are still listed. Anyone have any ideas what to try? |

Maybe you have an issue with the file format. Have a look at the following article: Movie Maker and Recorded TV DVR-MS Files http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-DVR-MS.html Are you in XP using MM2.1 or in Vista using MM6? If Vista, which version? |

I rebooted and the behavior changed. Now I can add the video to the timeline but when I try to Split it I get the message "movie maker has stopped working". Rebooting again does not seem to change anything. I'm using Vista Home Premium with SP1 installed. Movie Maker says it is version 6.0.6000. I hadn't noticed you mentioned Vista in the subject... any clues in the 'Reliability and Performance Monitor' > Failures info? |

No, nothing there for today but the Event Viewer shows several errors like this one: Faulting application MOVIEMK.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b5b6, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00000000, process id 0x14a8, application start time 0x01c942c77ccf907f. |

I tried recording a short clip - a couple of minutes - and then tried opening it in Movie Maker. It has the same issue. Movie Maker crashes when I drag the imported video to the timeline. I downloaded and ran GSpot on this video. It can play it with no problem. What should I look for here that would be helpful. |

Hi, I'm having exactly the same error. Has this problem been resolved? Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
