update media Avance AC97 audio update

I downloaded the update for my media and after down load i lost all my sound
and had to do a system resote to a earlier time to get my sound back? for the
subject of my question?.

Downloaded what update? If it was a driver update from the Windows Update
website, never ever install driver updates from Windows Update (you just
found out why), get them from the PC mfg's website.

it wwas listed as up date C-Media multimedia software update released on
December 15 2005. thats why i downloaded it
