Re: missing dll file

I've no idea how that went missing, it should be a core file.

You may be able to restore a copy using the following steps :
Go to Start -> Run, in the box type

cmd

Press enter, then type

sfc /scannow

Press enter, and allow the system file checker to complete its run -
it should be able to restore most files like that from a backup stored
on the PC.

You may also need to run (in the same command line window)

regsvr32 wmdrmsdk.dll

If that doesn't help, the file is included in this update package
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928788

You'd probably need the x86 version unless you know you have a 64 bit
version of XP.

Re: missing dll file

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried all three of your suggestions but,
with no luck. I tried downloading the file but got an error. It says I
need to have media format 11 sdk on my system before I can run the package.
What can I do next? Please help.

Re: missing dll file

You might be able to reinstall WMP11 from the download package - it
may work on XP (but won't on Vista), and comes with the WMF11 SDK

Probably the best shot though is to rollback to WMP10 by uninstalling
WMP11 *then* run the download package again. You can get WMP11
installer from this page :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...Downloads.aspx

The SDK package is available separately, from here
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/win.../bb190309.aspx
but I'm not sure it's intended to be installed to fix player problems.

Re: missing dll file

I've got it working in windows XP Pro SP3

and I had the same problem.

this is what i've done:

1. install win-rar from www.win-rar.com

2. extract the following file with win-rar:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928788

3. copy the file wmdrmsdk.dll to C:\windows\system32\

4. extract the following package with win-rar:
wmp11-windowsxp-x86-nl-nl.exe

5. install WindowsXP-MSCompPackV1-x86.exe

6. install wmfdist11.exe

7. install wmp11.exe (this way you get past the validation :-p)

and it works! ;-)

Re: missing dll file

The interesting part about this aspect of step 7:
this way you get past the validation
is that there's actually a much better way to do that that doesn't involve
causing data loss and a slightly misconfigured system.

That's not something the average user needs to know, but -- it pains me when
people, be they hackers or otherwise, recommend solutions that cause
interesting and nasty side effects. =\

Re: missing dll file

it is not about the validation.

i was just trying to get it to work

i don't care if you think i'm a hacker

i just got it working and i have no problems with it

i can watch divx / xvid / dvd movies

i can play FLAC and many other extensions

so i think it works

and if you think there is any dataloss

you should at first do some research before confirming it

i can not assure it is 100% working but that was not the case

people post their problem not getting it to work

at least i post something what could help

please also support in stead of putting it all on me thanks!

Re: missing dll file

You specifically mentioned it, which is why I specifically mentioned it.

I have the utmost respect for that concern.

should get you through 99% of any problems you might have had in this area
without doing bad things to your system.

Howdy! I wrote large chunks of the software you're using and when people
seek answers on this subject at Microsoft, I'm probably the guy that they
would want to turn to.

Consider this confirmed.

The #setup11 link above should be more directly helpful. Your suggestions
unfortunately are a hack workaround that have known side effects.

Absolutely! I appreciate your efforts to help others.

Re: missing dll file

If the software was written properly in the first place people wouldn't need hacks and get-arounds.

I had a perfectly good working WMP9, I selected updates and it tried to update me to WMP11. After restarting my machine (a step that makes Windows look stupid I might add) I'm faced with "missing this and missing that!" dialogs - even removing WMP and readding it doesn't work - amatuer rubbish!

I now have to waste my time looking around the internet for solutions when all I want to do is shout at Microsoft "Get this f** thing sorted and stop wasting my f**g valuable time!!!"
