| Library dissapeared and now I cannot add to library or share media
Ive encountered some strange issues with WMP11 (on XP) over the past 2 weeks and Im hoping there's someone out there that can help. The problem started with my playlists disappearing from my library. When I noticed this I tried recreating them, but they would not save. A week or so later I noticed that all my music files were no longer in my library. While all this was happening my xbox could continue to see all the various media that was no longer "in" WMP. A few days ago I noticed that no new media was accessible from my Xbox and decided to try and troubleshoot the issue. I started by dropping and then re-adding my media folders to the monitored folders list. However, after hitting OK and then reopening the Add to Library dialog the montiored list was completely empty. I cannot get anything to "stick" in the list. Ive tried various fixes including deleting the WMP DB from %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player as suggested by KB 925718. I've also reinstalled WMP 11 multiple times. I even removed the Zune UI from my computer thinking they may competing for the same files even though they had been coexisting happily for months. At this point I can play music/movies by using File/open but for everything else (library media sharing etc) the WMP is useless. Im uncertain where to go from here. Thanks in Advance for your help. |

| RE: Library dissapeared and now I cannot add to library or share media
Tonyern: I just experienced a similar problem with WMP 11 using Win Xp OS. Similarities include: 1. Monitored folders disappearing until all were gone 2. Unable to add monitored folers 3. Rolling back / reinstalling WMP Differences include: 1. No xbox 2. Can no longer roll back WMP to point where it no longer showns in program list Did you ever solve the problem? I am at a loss as to what to do next. | Re: Library dissapeared and now I cannot add to library or share m
My attempt at "resetting" the library was to erase from "drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player" all files, then all files and folders including file "CurrentDatabase_360." It was understood that WMP would rebuild files upon restart of WMP. However, upon WMP restart, no files were rebuilt and no folders are retained when added to monitored folders list. I did not uninstall "Windows Media Format Runtime 11" at any time and now cannot because WMP 11 must be uninstalled first. WMP 11 will not uninstall now (does not disappear from Add/Remove programs list). | Re: Library dissapeared and now I cannot add to library or share m Right, you would have wanted to rename the folder instead of erasing as you suggested. You might want to try that instead. If you still cannot rebuild the library at that point, that indicates a level of profile corruption - this should work fine on your system for any other user. What are the last 40 lines or so in c:\windows\wmsetup.log after your uninstall attempt? -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Zachd: Wow, you were right. The entire folder ":\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player" was manually renamed and WMP 11 was restarted. Upon WMP 11 restart, a new foler ":\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player" was automatically created, a new database within foldre was created, and my library of 14,000 songs was rebuilt. The file was opened, but, I do not have the expertise to find the location of the 40 lines after the last uninstall occurred. My thanks to you for taking the time to provide help. I was completely lost and am sincerely greatful. "zachd [MSFT]" wrote: > > Right, you would have wanted to rename the folder instead of erasing as you > suggested. You might want to try that instead.
