Re: Parameter is incorrect

Do WAV and/or WMA files still work? You didn't scope the failure, so it's
unclear what all is affected.

What changed on the system previous to this happening?

OK, that implies that the file associations are broken. Go to the Default
Programs control panel and reassociate to the player there.

Thanks for your questions. The WM11 plays wavs, avi's. and all the
other sound or video files it is supose to. However, these files must
be access thru the drop-down menu; double clicking the files results
in nothing occuring. As far as changes to the system, i frequently
install and un-install freeware to test , so there have been probably
a ton of changes to the system. This however is the first time a basic
function of the OS has been effected, if indeed it is that is where
the problem started.
I really hate not being able to do a repair install!!!!

Re: Parameter is incorrect

Glad I found this thread.... I have been having the exact same problem for a couple months. Didn't bother me too much until I realized that my PS3 can no longer access WMP11 as a Media Server.

Also, it is odd that WMP11 does not exist on the Start/Programs path or in the registry (as far as I can tell) or in the unistall program utility. One thing I did that may have affected WMP11: I manually moved some photos around in the folder structure found at the user/pictures path.

Thanks for any help.

You're using the horrible vampiric TechArena web site. You responded to an
old post and TechArena stripped the context. I think most of us have no
idea whatsoever what you're referring to. It is really painful that
TechArena abuses UseNet like this, and it certainly doesn't help us help
you. =\

Re: Parameter is incorrect

Thanks for the reply, zachd. Here's the situation:
When I double-click any WMP11 associated file (.wma,.mp3,.wmv) nothing happens unless WMP11 is already open. If I right click the file and 'open with-WMP', I get a message 'The parameter is incorrect.' I can, however, right click on the file and 'open with -internet explorer' and it flashes IE and WMP then starts.
Also, my PS3 is no longer finding the media server on WMP11 and I think it is related.
Running Vista32
I saw your WMP site at zachd.com/pss/pss.html and tried most of the stuff you have posted there. Thanks for the help.

Re: Parameter is incorrect

TechArena took all the valuable context out of this thread. You should
suggest that they stop doing this because it's ****ing painful.
