No video on Media player 11

Here go's. First of all I have Win XP PRO, running Media player 11. I just
recentally noticed that files are not playing Video, however the sound does
play.... These are all sorts of files WMV, Mpeg etc. All what I would
consider common files that have played in the past. I have tried all sorts of
solutions to no avail. First was to try a restore point. But I keep getting
the "Nothing has been changed on the system so no restore has been done"
after the system rebooted. I did this 3 times for different dates. The last
from at least 3 weeks ago well before this issue started. I then tried to
install some after market codec packs thinking maybe it lost something along
the way. Although the media player usually asks if there is no associated
codec for file it wasn't for this. Even after loading these codecs I still
had same problem. I even had same issue using supplied media player with
these codecs and Nero player that has been on the system since I got it.
Finally I tried using a command that was given to me to repair win files a
long time ago and has worked for me in the past. SFC /scannow. This file
would get so far and then ask for windows CD, but wouldn't recognize the CD
once it was entered. I am loosing patience :( Not a total idiot on computer
front, but this one has me baffled...

Re: No video on Media player 11

When running these files again, press CTRL + M to show menus, and go
to File -> Properties. Which codecs are listed as (intended) in-use
for the files ?

Cheers - Neil

Re: No video on Media player 11

To answer the question Windows media version 9, DV dodec for my vid cam etc
etc. Out of the 1/2 dozen different files I tried all had different codecs
associated with them. Most had codec listed in the Help/About/ Technical
support screen.
I just spent some more time poking through other threads and tried the
lowering Vid acceleration to half and viola. I overlooked that last night,
sorry for bothering and thanks for the reply.

Re: No video on Media player 11

That working fix would normally be associated with a dud graphics card
driver.

They're updated frequently for newer graphics cards as people catch
things like this - have you had a chance to go to the manufacturers
website (often ATI or NVidia) and see if there are updates ?

HTH
