error COOD1199

Hi,

I received a media file in my mail, when I click it to play, my Windows Media Player says “error COOD199. File player might not support codec that was used to compress the file”. I thought to download update but the setup says:

“That the service pack version of the system installed is newer than the update you are applying to it. You can only install this update on service pack 1.”

Somebody please help or suggest what should I do. Many thanks.

Many times while playing the videos or any media file directly from mails, that particular email client may or may not communicate the correct content (MIME) type to media player and hence such error or problems occurs. So why don’t you just download that file on your local hard drive first and then play them. It will properly.

BTW, what is the file format of the file? If it is in AVI or FLV, you will need external codecs to play the same.

Remember that if the mail client uses a custom authentication protocol, then the player cannot play back directly from that client. So the best fix of this problem is to save the file to disk first and then play.
