SOME mp3 files don't play in Windows Media Player - others play fine

I have huge collection of MP3 files on my system. It is Windows XP Media Center Edition v5 with Windows Media Players 11. The problem am facing is I’m not able to play most of the MP3 files on my WMP. Whenever I try doing the same, it comes up with error code C00D1199. The complete error message is as follows:

“Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.' Through WMP 'Web Help', this is error C00D1199”. Sometimes it also says “C00D002F Invalid or corrupt data was encountered.”

I tried to search on web regarding this but dint found any working solution. Somebody please help.

Such problem most probably occurs when there use to be any metadata errors missing bits of data in the file. What you can do is just open those files in a sound editor and resave them as mp3 again without changing anything. This will repair all those errors.

The problem occurs most like due to a corrupt codec. Did you have ac3filter on your system? If yes, then I know how you can get rid of this error because I have pretty good experience of the problem you mentioned above as i was facing the same couple of weeks ago. What you need to do is:
    • Uninstall ac3filter from Add/Remove
    • In cmd unregister ax3filter.ax (regsvr32 /u ac3filter.ax)
    • Reboot
    • Delete ac3filter.ax from it's directory
    • Download the latest ac3filter setup from ac3filter.net and install

That’s it. Now restart WMP and see if you are facing the problem yet.
