| Media Share Will Not Work
I have an xbox 360 and im trying to use my windows media player 11 to connect to it. But everytime I click on share my media and press ok it just freezes for about 10 seconds and does nothing. It doesn't come up showing my xbox 360 on the network. |

Hi James, Did you ever find out how to solve this? I too have the same problem. When you click OK after checking the share my media box it never changes the window, but after a few seconds the OK is greyed out anymore... Let me know if you figured it out... I tried Zune and that didn't work, I tried uninstalling Windows Media Player 11 and then reinstalling...no luck. I'm out of ideas as to why my pc and 360 won't talk. I download demos from LIVE so I know my 360 is seeing the Internet. |

Hi superman, No, i havn't found a solution yet. I also tried zune and it didn't work properly ether. I also uninstalled and reinstalled windows media player but it still does the same thing. The weird thing is though that i tried conecting it to my moms computer and cennected perfectly on the first try so i have no idea whats wrong with my computer since there both connected over the same network. |

I have the same problem just as both of you have described. Any idea how we can get an answer from MS, or have they just ignored this post? Can you add folders to the player's Monitored Folders list? No I cannot add folders, as the player is not recognized, the problem again is that Media Player does not allow for sharing at all. After checking off sharing and hitting okay it does nothing but continuously go back to the "allow media sharing screen |

How is the player not recognized? I'm talking about specifically opening up Windows Media Player on the PC only and adding a Monitored Folder? Does that work and stick when you reopen it? If not, your library is corrupt-- and *has* to be reset before you can continue. |

James if you are still having this problem you can try this. Go to your control panel and into administrative tools double click services. Scroll down to windows media player network sharing service and make sure it is started. If it is not double click it and start it. Try it, hope it works because it worked for me. I disabled it for something and couldn't get media sharing to work and then i remembered so i started it again and it works perfect. |

I tryed what you sugested with services, but I got the following error: "Could not start Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start". PLEASE HELP...anyone?...getting desperate. Thank You in advance. |

| Re: Media Share Will Not Work
This was exactly my problem as well. The enable media sharing would not work because the WIndows Media Player Sharing Service was not started. When I tried to start it, I got the 1068 message. The way to resolve is to click on the other services mentioned in the dependency tab and change them all to 'automatic' and start. Once I did that for SSDP Discovery and Universal Play Device host (i.e. started those services successfully) then the Windows Media Player Sharing Service started successfully. Once that was done, clicking the enable media sharing in the Media Play box worked immediately and now my devices are authorized and working properly. |

I have the same issues. In my case, Universal Plug and Play Device Host is not started. When I attempt to start it, I get a message, "The Universal Plug and Play Device Host service on Local Computer started and then stopped." How do I resolve this so that the "Window Media Network Sharing Service" works again? By the way, this all used to work perfectly for me, and after a hardware upgrade, stopped working altogether. |

| Re: Media Share Will Not Work
Zach, I actually found the answer to this online somewhere. It turns out that (for reasons I have no idea of), the folders/files in "C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService" were not enabled to allow access permissions by the "LOCAL SERVICE" group. Once I fixed that (turn off "Use simple file sharing" in Explorer > Folder Options > View, and then open the properties for the folder and add the "LOCAL SERVICE" group with full control to the folder's Security list), I got a new error from the Media Sharing service (1008, I think). I then remedied this by changing the Media Sharing service to log on as "Local Sytem account" rather than "This account". Now everything is working again... an arcane set of steps to remedy, but there you have it. |

| Re: Media Share Will Not Work
After many days of research this is what solved my problem: the solution to my system's error 1068 was starting the Windows UPnP services. I found the answer at the following PS3 forum: ok here is the SOLUTION!!! after hours and hours of hacking.. Start / Run... type: services.msc then OK Check these 3 services (it's A MUST if you want to detect your device - PS3). SSDP Discovery Service <<<<< Start this one first Make and make it Automatic (right click properties).already enabled, switched to automatic Universal Plug and Play Device Host << then this one same as one above already enabled, switched to automatic Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service <<< then this one... will not stay started, it starts and then it says it had to stop. switched to automatic if you get any errors like 1068 -79.. etc simple google errors and you will find easy solution. i got error 1068 that means you need to have SSDP Discovery Service running before starting Universal Plug and Play Device Host after that use that simple 5/6 step procedure and R'n'R thats it!!! ps. i have no idea why this services ware DISABLED on my PC. |

I did all of the above and when it came up with the error saying that it had to stop i was like are you kidding me..lol I still did not get windows media connect to work. But i did get windows media player to detect Xbox360. so now i am streaming music and videos. But what i dont understand is how did i get connected without using windows media connect. Note: windows media connect is still on my computer. |

| Re: Media Share Will Not Work
All of what above, when what came up ? You've removed all context from this message so we can only guess what problem you might be having ;-) To address your other point - windows media connect was integrated into media player 11 (it required WMC for media player 10) so that would no longer be in use on your PC if you have WMP11. |
