Quartz.dll -PROBLEM?

I see that this problem has been pretty popular in this forum. Any information to solve my problem would be appreciated.

I got the typical:

Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 11.0.5721.5145
ModName: quartz.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2749 Offset: 0009ddec

I can't open MPEG's or WMP files...HELP!

Re: Quartz.dll -PROBLEM?

Did you try installing various codec time to time? I?m telling this because such problem occurs due to random codec packs installed on the same system. And hence the best solution is to remove them all, clean the system and install just one codec. So do the same and after that try re-registering quartz.dll with a known good copy.

To do this, go to Start > RUN, type CMD and press Enter. Now type ?sfc /scannow? without quotes and press Enter. Once the system file checker is completed, just type regsvr32 quartz.dll in the command prompt again and wait for few seconds. You will get a pop up saying ?Successful?. That?s it. You are done.

Neil-

Man, I'm getting frusterated. I recently followed your directions and I had no luck. I'm sure there is some kind of "bad codec" that was downloaded without me knowing (I'm not the only user on my computer). Is there any other advise you can enlighten me with?
- I uninstalled WMP11
- Followed your directions and still nothing
- Could the culperate be that I need to eliminate a particular music or movie file?
