| Re: Ideas for Windows Media Player 12
You could consider a sidebar gadget like this : that's a kind of player skin with slide-out video view. Or, use the media player toolbar player if you're just or mostly doing audio : Right-click in a blank area of the taskbar (somewhere other than the clock area or an application bar) and choose Toolbars -> Windows Media Player Now when you minimise the player (using the [_] icon in WMP window) the toolbar player, controls and popup mini video/visualisations preview will be shown, instead of just a regular toolbar Uncheck the toolbar if you find the behaviour irritating when you really *do* want to just minimise the player. |

| RE: Ideas for Windows Media Player 12
i have only one request and it seems to be something that no player on earth can do. i want a delete the current playing song button. i have a huge amount of music that i would like to be able to chop back and to do that i would like to be able to listen to the song and if i decide i dont want to keep that song on my hard drive and because i know the CD is in my closet if i change my mind, i would like to press a button and the player will move to the next song and delete the one i just decide to delete. plain and simple, i dont like the song, or i dont listen to it often enough, please remove it from my drive, move me on to the next song please. right now, there is no player i know of that would allow me the simplicity of this idea. either i have to hunt the song down in windows explorer or i have to click multiple buttons getting me to a dialog that will allow me to view the file on the hard drive and then i realize that the song is still playing so i have to close the dialogs and then move to the next song, then select the one i wanted to delete, only to find that i had the player on shuffle, so i turn off shuffle, click the back song button and DOH! now it goes to the song before the one i was listening to on the list and i have lost the shuffle pattern... and i have lost the song in the list that i was going to delete and i have forgotten the name of it, oh well i will get it next time... give me a delete button please... i dont even care if i have to go somewhere in a dialog to turn the button on so that something that dangerous doesnt get hit by a noob. just let me delete my songs... |

Most people play their favourite music. Being only two clicks away from deleting my favourite tracks (I presume there would be an "Are you sure" dialogue) would make me very nervous. I might click the button accidentally, and my puppy, Alfie, might leap on me, and click the "Yes" for me. I would imagine that the developers would shudder at the prospect, given the millions of users. I know I wouldn't sleep nights in their position. In WMP11, it is RMB, Find in Library, Click the highlighted track (perhaps, may not be necessary), press "Del". |

| Re: Ideas for Windows Media Player 12
i dont want a "Are you sure?" dialog. i want an instant "kill that file button and move on to the next song button". my time is too wasted trying to remove the songs that i dont want to keep. if i have imported it from CD there is no problem, because i can always reimport it, and if i purchased it then my music store should allow me to redownload that song. and if they dont and i was stupid enough not to back up my music collection before working through it with this button then i deserve to pay to get that song again. thats why i say it wouldnt be bad if i had to go in and manually turn on this dangerous button in some options somewhere, and it would be even better if i had to do that every time i closed the player and restarted it. but if someone would build me a player with that kind of button in it i would finally be able to get my music sorted to just those that i want to immeadiately have on hand. |

DawnTreader, you are not alone. Winamp can do this, via a hotkey enabled by a plug in called Playlist File Remover However, this plug-in is a beta version that has problems (on my PC, it crashes Winamp). I think that it also needs updating for use on Vista and Win 7. You have been warned. |
