Media player is jerky playing video and music files I'mNew to Vista

According to Welcome Centre the computer is an AMD Athlon 64 x 2 dual core
processor 4200, 990 MB of ram, NVIDIA GeForce 6150 WDDM. I know the sound
and video are both onboard on an Asus M2N board.
The windows experience index is 3.4. processor 5.9, ram 4.5, graphics 5.9,
gaming graphics 3.4, primary hard disk 5.9.
Any rented of purchased DVD's all play very jerky like like it keeps
starting and pausing in media player or media centre. If I use Nero Show
Time the dvd's all play smoothly. What settings do I need to change for
media player to work? Thanks for the help.

PrarriePup,

I would suggest checking on the NVidia website for updated video drivers
for your card that are Vista compatible.

Even though you have a 64bit processor, I don't know if you're running 32bit
Vista or 64bit Vista so here are the links to both. You'll need to figure
out which you need:

32bit Vista drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_158.18.html

64bit Vista Drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_158.18.html

Please let us know if this resolves the issue for you or not.

I did improve things for playing dvd's, they still run slow but no where as
jerky as before. music however still plays very jerky. I have Vista home
premium 32 bit operating system. And again thanks for your help I really
appreciate it.

Re: Media player is jerky playing video and music files I'mNew to

Okay, so with tha jerky audio, the first thing I would check is to see if the
information in this link will help. There are some issues that this will
resolve.

http://www.dellcommunity.com/support...thread.id=6860

Even if you don't have a Dell computer, the information is valid for the
audio device type. Please give it a try.

Last, if that doesn't help, I'd look at the playback enhancements. Under
the Now Playing tab is a little down pointing arrow. Click that and you get
a menu, select Enhancements and then Graphic Equalizer. Make sure it's off,
then cycle through each of the items by clicking the right pointing arrow in
the upper left corner of the enhancements window. Turn off SRS WOW, Volume
Leveling, etc. Each change takes a few seconds to take place while audio is
playing, just turn each one off if they are on and see if that makes any
difference.

Re: Media player is jerky playing video and music files I'mNew to

Hi again, I tried all that you said. I also went to the maker of the
motherboard and downloaded drivers for the sound card. I do know the
computer can run media player because a few weeks ago after restarting due
to a windows update the media player worked well played music and dvd's and
all. It also ran when i first updated xp to vista. I dont want to re install
vista if I can help it cause I purchased the update and I think that means I
would have to format the drive, install XP and then Install Vista. Thanks
for all the help you've given.
