| Vista, URGE, WMP 11, and C00D11B1 error
I contacted URGE support via email. They sent me the response listed below. I followed their instructions very carefully... because I know nothing about computers. It fixed the problem on my computer. Thought I'd share it with you all. After researching the issue you have encountered, we found the problem may be caused by unsigned audio drivers on your Vista computer. According to Microsoft documentation Note: The audio engine does not normally load an unsigned sAPO. However, signing is not done until the development process is complete and the driver has been submitted to WHQL. For development and test purposes, the signing requirement can be bypassed by setting the DisableProtectedAudioDG registry value to 1, as shown in this example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio "DisableProtectedAudioDG" =dword:00000001" Basically, a soundcard driver that you have installed on your system has an unsigned sAPO which, to work, creates the above Windows Registry key. The key is then causing the C00D11B1 error when trying to play files in Windows Media Player 11. WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified keys only. To backup (export) your Registry, please perform the following: Click Start > Run > Type "regedit" without the quotations and press Enter If using Vista?s original view, click Start>In search area, type regedit.exe and press enter. In the Registry Editor go to file -> export Ensure that ALL has been clicked and enter the file name (regbackup_date.reg, for example). We recommend performing the following to correct the issue you are having. We recommend following the below instructions VERY CAREFULLY. 1. Click on the Start Menu. 2. Type regedit into the Start Search box and hit enter. 3. If asked for permission, click on Continue to open the Registry Editor 4. On the left-pane, navigate to the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion, and finally, Audio. 5. In the right-pane, double click on the text, DisableProtectedAudioDG, and change the value from 1 to 0. 6. Close the Registry Editor. 7. Restart your computer. URGE solved the problem. I can now download their music files AND they will play. Happy Easter! |

Thanks for sharing your answer with the rest of us, Keith. I am sure that it will help a lot of others in the future. Copy the following text, between but not including the [COPY] and [/COPY] tags, into a blank file in Notepad. Save the file to your desktop named DisableProtectedAudioDG.reg and then double click the file on your desktop and answer yes when asked if you want to import the data to the registry: [COPY] Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio] "DisableProtectedAudioDG"=dword:00000001 [/COPY] Well, there are a lot of other problems that could cause C00DB11B1 errors. Are the tracks you're having problems with from Urge as well? If not, what format are they and what is the source of the files? |

im having the same problem and error when running some files on WMP11 ive tried to follow those instructions given to Keith, however when trying to find and make the DisableProtectedAudioDG registry value to 1 and going through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio, there is no audio file within the current version. Therefore i cant find the DisableProtectedAudioDG.....So now i dont know what to do and was wondering if anyone would know what to do. any help would be great thanx thanks heaps....i did everything u said and imported the data into the registry, restarted te computer....an yet it hasnt done anything to solve the problem. The thing is, is when i first got this new computer with vista, there wasnt an issue and WMP was working fine, just all of a sudden came up with that error. thanx again for your help i dont think that there is an actual problem with Urge. the only files that i have problems with are the mpg or mpeg and also wav files - theyve come from the internet from websites or downloading programs. WMV files work fine...... |

Do they play in other players? If you rip a CD to wav, does it play? As for the MPG file, it seems the file is corrupt. You might want to try finding a reliable source for some test files. |

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!! This same issue has been driving us nuts for days. I had contacted everyone but URGE, and got no results anywhere. Again thank you for sharing this information with us. Have a blessed day. I'm having the same problem and the key was not there as Andy also experienced. Adding it hasn't helped. The media files have been working for months and still work in Windows 2000 under Media Player 9. But none of my xvid stuff works in MP 11 under Vista any more. well nero showtime plays my media, so i'm going to put this down to microsoft being, well, microsoft. to be honest, if i could vpn into work with linux i would have deleted vista off my laptop already. |

Wait - what problem? XVID is a video codec -- as such I'm confused. Any reference to XVID in this context is unrelated, as the Urge/AudioDG issue here is specifically in reference to protected content. So you'd probably want to establish a new thread .... ? |

| Re: Vista, URGE, WMP 11, and C00D11B1 error
There is most definitely a problem. As a matter of fact, I'm having it AGAIN after having previously fixed it and I have no Samsung software on my machine. Never did. Nor have I made any changes related to sound drivers. Then again, I do have a Creative Labs sound card which is just as bad. However I was paying attention this time and noted the only thing that changed within the last 48 hours was WMP11 did one of its "needs to refresh your license files" bits. Other things I've noticed: The number of postings related to this problem increased dramatically in late February-early March. This problem is only occuring with purchases I've made since late February-early March Few if any of these problems are occuring on machines in the enterprise, e.g. they're all home user's machines that are not subject to AD group policies More than a few postings seem to be made or note the issue having started either the second week in March or April - the week that Windows Updates/MS Downloads are deployed by MS. I definitely changed this registry key last time because I still have the export that I did and the system restore I made previous to changing the key. At the same time the regkey has "reverted" back to a problem state, a (possibly) key has reverted back to a problem state: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl|FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN It causes script errors with both the XP and Vista versions of the online Live OneCare safety scanner. All this gives the impression that MS, either through an update or related to defualt security settings, may be resetting these keys once a month. I'll know for sure by this time in July unless there's a fix. |

I continue to have blocking issues after trying these suggestions as well as myriad other suggestions in other posts/blogs/sites. I'm stunned that this problem's solution is so evasive. I have an WMV file that refuses to play because of this error code. It's an endless loop. I'm running Vista Enterprise with WMP11 and to the best of my knowledge everything is up to date (at least according to Windows Update - if there is something else I need to check...). A WMV file... ? I thought this conversation was about Urge related issues... ? Is it isolated to one particular WMV file? Where did that come from? Is it a purchased file... ? |

Like others, the registry edit trail did NOT lead to Audio and I couldn't find anyone that suggested what to do in THAT case. I did find the answer for solvinig the problem of getting files to play, though. I put this message on similar threads at this site. What worked for me was someone's suggestion to uncheck a box! In Vista, follow along: Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound Sound / Manage Audio Devices Highlight your audio device Properties Advanced In the Exclusive Media section, UNCHECK the box "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device." Apply I spent days being tortured by being cut off from the WMV files that I had legitimate rights to play. It didn't matter which software player, either -- Real Player, Yahoo Jukebox or Windows Media Player, brand new downloads, old downloads, new CD rips or old. Sometimes my files would play, other times not. Unchecking that box allows the files to play! With this "repair" in mind and after making these posts, I remembered what drove me insane to begin with -- the URGE store! So confident about WMP's ability to play, I attempted again to install URGE as my store of choice. Guess what? It wouldn't install. Then guess what? Many songs wouldn't play! Aaargh! So. I went back through the Uncheck the Box gyrations. It was still unchecked. But I checked it, hit Apply, then unchecked it, hit Apply again and then reboot my computer. The songs play again. I am done worrying about the URGE store. For the record, I use a new Sony VAIO LS series desktop with pre-installed Vista Home Premium and Windows Media Player 11. Origiinally I used Norton Internet Security that came pre-installed on the system. I now use Windows Live OneCare. This error occured under both. Hope this helps. Good luck. UPDATE The "UNCHECK -- Allow applications..." solution was good for one and a half days of uninterrupted music play. Keeping that unchecked, I have added an additional, suggested solution to the problem. From Windows Media Player, follow along: Tools Options Player CHECK player settings "Connect to the Internet (overrides other commands) UNCHECK "Start the mini Player for file names that contain this text:..." Then with WMP closed, I also went to this website http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/...en/indivit.asp and clicked UPGRADE If this is good for another day and a half of uninterrupted music -- forget URGE, that hunt is done -- I will be happy-like. Satisfied. Un-pissed. I use a new Sony VAIO LS-series desktop with pre-installed Vista Home Premium, SigmaTel Sound Card, (never had a Samsung mobile device software). I use Windows Media Player 11 and suffer the evil C00D11B1 code appearing with WMV files originating from old and new downloads, and old or new CD rips, randomly and with no rhyme or reason. All of the music files were legitimately acquired. I've had RealPlayer and Rhapsody installed and uninstalled. I think that's the whole story. Hard to keep the details straight. I have some sort of SonicStage stuff pre-installed in this new computer. Should I uninstall? This will be posted in multiple threads on the off-chance that it's mildly helpful to someone. I can't believe that threads to this problem stretch into last year and there still isn't a definitive -- Do This. |

| RE: Vista, URGE, WMP 11, and C00D11B1 error
THANKS A MILLION KEITH!!!! I have for months torn my system apart looking for a possible fix. I have tried many many things and nothing ever worked. My problem was once I ripped a cd, it would pop up the COOD11B1 error when I tried to play it. I have been pulling my hair out for many months and even Microsoft had said there was nothing else to try but to reload my audio player. THat didn't work either. Tonight I googled my problem and 3 pages later and hours of heart ache, I found this fix. THANKS A MILLION!!!!!!!!!!! I owe you!! |
